New SSD Drive addition.
Im keeping this to offtopic for the main reason it's not quite hardware related.. And intended to be just a reasonably quick answer im after.
I have a new 2.5" 120 GB SSD arriving tomorrow.... Which is going to be installed on a 2.5" Caddy as pictured just above the Corsair F40.Above the F40. ![]() Now with a Corsair 700D Case. The PDF's i have shows no indication to were the caddy is supposed to go.. Taking a good look around the interior of the case there is no direct place where the Caddy sits snuggly.. EDIT: I have a couple of ideas to where to place it with a small moddification... Last edited by MIG-31; Jun 27, 2011 at 07:15 PM. |

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
Thats an option for sure... However the cage came with the case so i presumed there were i direct slot for it..
For the size of the 700D it should be easy to accommodate the addition without the use of glue or tape..

What does this do?

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
I thought the 3.5" caddies had screw holes for 2.5" drives? I know that this may sound obvious, but have you tried that caddy in one of the 3.5" caddies?

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
Does it go in place of the bottom 2 drive trays, below that fan? There's 4 holes that may line up with that cage....... (from the crap picture I just looked at) This would have the drives vertical, but that wouldn't matter.

The holes were hidden out of sight due to the 3.5 trays adaptors. |

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
No mate... the new OCZ SSD (despite getting it cheaper than my first source) has already blown my budget..
But i may concider an alteration if my current Ebay items pay off... Time will tell. |

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
Be ready to update the firmware right away if it's a Vertex 3 or Agility 3 drive. The latest one seems to have solved the system crash problems here with an Agility 3. The OCZ firmware update routine needs to be run with the OS on another drive and the system needs to be running the Microsoft default SATA drivers.

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
Be VERY careful though. OCZ has said (on the update page HERE) that if your drive has a firmware prior to 2.06 that you need to first run the file that says "2.37-206" to bring it up to firmware 2.06, and then to run the regular 2.37 Toolbox to update the drive to 2.09.
BTW, OCZ seems to have fixed the issue with updating their SF SSDs on Windows machines running Intel's Rapid Storage driver version 10.x. Before it wouldn't work, but it seems fine now. However, as mkk suggested it's still recommended to use a machine running MS drivers, but at the very least it cannot be higher than Intel's Rapid Storage driver version 9.6. |

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
Otherwise it's a nice drive. I'm only running it off SATA 3Gbit until Bulldozer gets out so in practice it's not yet been noticeably faster than my Corsair F60, but the extra space puts my mind to ease.
By the way, don't worry if some drive info/temperature program says it's 128 degrees hot. Like most SSD's this model dosen't actually have a temperature probe in it. SSD's don't need them, although my F60 has one and did report real numbers until after a firmware update. Never got more than lukewarm. Perhaps your F40 has been the same. |

Re: New SSD Drive addition.
I have now moved this thread to Hardware Discussion.
Now i can say that the drive came today with the Firmware 2.06 so the update went very well to 2.09. Now it had taken the last 4 hours to get my mobo to detect the SSD.. Windows just would not recognize the drive as a (close As) 120GB drive.. 3 different formats and windows 7 installs later it found the drive... |

Now that is odd...Just to add i have never came across an issue with a brand new drive before with windows of any version... As i mentioned the firmware tools found the drive without any issue..Otherwise thew firmware would not of worked. Usually the Windows disk would detect the drive (normal HD's that is) and it found the corsair F40 that stu gave me. When i said about the several installs it were not full installs... Just going through the process to detect the drive.. I had to reset the Hatachi drive that had windows installed,Then had to go through the drive mangement options to format and make the drive Live and named as a seperate drive... My windows disk then found the drive in the instalation options... BTW TIP.... I just want to let you know i did leave you some + Rep points as you recomended this SDD.... (simply as "Thanks" ) as a thankyou for the tip... So far its a great drive and is very quick... Last edited by MIG-31; Jun 29, 2011 at 05:31 PM. |
