Have you ever resolved a hardware problem...
...only to have another one just blow up in your face?
its funny, after extensive testing of my computer, i found my motherboard had a slight defect where the memory channels would produce a few errors in slots 2 and 4 anywhere between 3 minutes to 2 hours into memtest.... after returning the board and getting a new one, i was in the middle of a new memtest, only to have my 8800GT fizzle out on me... i was without a computer for a week or so trying to put together some money and figure out what i should buy... i ended up just buying a GT 430 at a nearby frys for 50 bucks and put that in. while it is slightly slower than the 8800GT it replaced, its a rather powerful little card...

Re: Have you ever resolved a hardware problem...
Recently, I had to save a PC from virus death. Every time they opened an EXE, it would ask them what they wanted to use to open it with. I couldn't access the Internet to look up the registry entries and I didn't want to risk anything. As they back everything up on a regular basis, I backed up the secondary partition to their 2TB drive, along with any lingering files on the C drive. That was pretty fluent.
When I reformatted the C drive, however, the secondary partition was lost and the 2TB drive had suddenly split into three partitions; two partitions were unassigned, the other two were unreadable. Joy. I'd unplugged that harddrive before reformatting too. I proceeded to run undelete software to recover the partition. It went through, found a few partitions and I saved the results. Twice. The partition couldn't be restored because, apparently, there wasn't enough room on the drive. I deleted the partitions that were there, opened up the software again and both saved results were "corrupted". This was after the scan had run from 11PM one day to 5:30PM the next day. Round 2. I did a full file scan using the software (again, overnight). It found pretty much everything, except one folder and every MP3. Could be worse; most of the MP3s I gave him anyway and that folder was backed up elsewhere. That's one weekend I won't get back.
