New Sabertooth 990FX build!
Old build:
Asus M2N-E, Athlon X2 3200+, PNY HD4850 500Mb, 4 gig DDR2 800, 4 250 gig HD in Raid5, Enermax Liberty 600 Watt Modular. New build: Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX CPU: AMD Phenom II 1055T 6 core, Thermalright MUX120 Heat sink.(At least until Bulldozer gets released.... )Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB PC3-12800 (1600MHz) (9-9-9-24) Video Card: Asus EAH6870 CUII Power supply: Corsair HX1000 Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.13 6Gb/s Sata 3 X 2 running in AHCI mode. Extras: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Hauppauge Colossus HD pvr (Arriving Monday, Aug 15, 2011) Its all together now in my old Antec 300 case(Note: Don't leave out the nice 140 mm top fan in this case... you'll need it for proper airflow!). Small issue with thermal paste (used too much the first time... (been a long time since I've done this). Temps were way out of wack (CPU 45C idle, 55-60C full load.) Re did the cooler thermal paste, reinstalled the 140 mm case top fan and now 32C idle, 46C max after 2 hours of Prime 95 and Asus q-fan set to silent profile. This is on stock clocks/ all setting "Auto" in BIOS. I'll wait for the burn in to complete before playing with overclocking. One thing I have noticed is that that the voltage regulators run hot. V-Core 1 is running at 52C and V-Core 2 at 48C at full load. Might have to work on some better airflow. No SSD yet, Probably do that when I put the Bulldozer in. |

Re: New Sabertooth 990FX build!
Thanks, Veridian.
I love love love the new Asus probe, especially the thermal radar, changing fan profiles on the fly is so good. 4 hours of prime 95 now, temps are rock solid still. Can't beat the price/performance on that ram kit either, got it for $144.99 CAN. This is perfect for a medium gaming/full time media center system(currently hooked up to a 42" Toshiba flat screen). |

Re: New Sabertooth 990FX build!
Update:
Made some smallish tweaks: Moved to a Phenom II 1100T BE ----> got a smoking deal.... Moved to an Asus EAH 6950 Direct CUII. The shader unlocked! So running stock speed but with HD6970 shader count. Moved to a Antec Solo II since the 6950 didn't fit the Antec 300. I know, I know, the Solo II is overpriced and not optimal for cable routing, but it is virtually impossible to find a mid tower less than 18 inches tall (It needs to fit in my Entertainment system stand), and that looks half decent. Oh, and I installed an OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB SSD last week. This system now rocks............................. |
