Case fan question
Heya,
I hope this doesnt sound like a stupid question but im pretty new to the world of pc hardware. I was wondering if its possible to get a case fan that fits a 200mm fan's screw holes, but does not extend past them ie has a <200mm face? (if that makes any sense) My problem is i bought a 200mm fan as an exhaust for the top/rear of my case, but it doesnt fit because of the radiator from my cpu cooler. The fan only just doesnt fit and if i could get a square fan which fits 200mm screw holes (but has a smaller face) it would be fine. This isnt a massive issue because there are holes for a 120 or 140 fan instead, its just they look kinda silly with such a big vent and a small fan sitting in it. Apologies if this has been asked before, but i wasnt really sure what to search in order to find an answer. |

Re: Case fan question
I,m not what your saying some pics would be good.
I myself would take to it with a pair tin snips and a drill if something was in the way. My case didnt have a top exhaust hole but it does now. Just beware of metal fileings they would cause havoc

Re: Case fan question
Hmm lets see if this help at all...
So the fan below is a BitFenix Spectre 200mm Fan... ![]() As you can see, the red square shows the furthest part of where the screw holes reach, while the green area shows where the face of the fan extends past this point. What i want to know is: are there fans that would fill the red area...ie fit 200mm screw holes, without the green bit hanging past (the bit that prevents it from fitting)? essentially a square fan with 200mm dimension screw holes, but a <200mm face does anyone have a suggestion? once again not the end of the world if not, but would just be nice, and im quite curious to know now

Re: Case fan question
perhaps a 180mm fan would work?
they tend to have perfectly square faces but obviously, their impeller is smaller than a 200mm fan's. they will need to be measured but the 180mm fan probably does have a similar set of mounting holes. Silverstone Air Penetrator AP181 180 x 180 x 32mm Fan - (SST-AP181) - FrozenCPU.com

Re: Case fan question
different makers have different sizes for screw holes.
i got coolermax (normal 120x120x25) and scytheefans (120x120x19)[i think it was, it's a thin fan], and scythe have bigger holes then coolermax did. |
