Re: weird problem

You may need to post your full specs of the pc you are currently using.. Is it a desktop or laptop (possibly the latter) you are using.

Because that looks like the Graphics card is at fault. Maybe underpowered or overheating could be the first thing to look at. but more like its the start of the cards death.

It looks like your GPU is having its final moments on this world.

Re: weird problem

I agree.... GPU issues. I'm taking it this is a laptop (reference to "external monitor") How old is it and has it ever been cleaned out? Over time they accumulate a lot of dust that stops proper cooling.

Full specs would help.

Re: weird problem

If it's showing up on both the screen and external monitor.... then typically it's one of 3 or 4 things.

1: overheating, failing, or similare. Not good if your using a laptop as essentially they aren't "changeable".... clean it out asap to make sure....

2: I recently experiences this with the interconnection between the igpu and the lcd monitor panel itself, which required me to send the laptop away to be repaired. Surfice it to say, i too originally thought it was heat/gpu related. But determined this not to be the case the moment i plugged in an external monitor. Still it's possible that even the interconnection to the external port could be effected.

3: Driver corruption or software side corruption issues. It's not entirely uncommon, but it's still relatively rare for this to occur. I've seen it, always worth trying to update to the latest reference driver OR rolling back to a previous one. I've had windows update, update display driver that caused grief similar to this that also resulted in an external monitor freaking out exactly the same way. 2 Other cases caused an unrecoverable BSOD... which is utterly amazing to me as that should have never happened lol.

4: RAM, the physical ram into the computer will cause corruption like that too.. and effect external displays too. If the physical ram/memory is failing or has failed but is still attempting to write data and read data from it, well.... things tend to go bad like that. This can be also related to excessive heat of course. Either way, i would after exhausting some of the other attempts... run a Memtest86+ test for a 12-24 hour period to try and eliminate as many potential culprits to narrow down exactly what is the issue.

In the end if everything points to the iGPU or gpu itself, and it's a laptop..... cross your fingers that you have warranty still because you'll want it. The GPU's are almost allways intergrated into the main board and aren't just something you can swap out.... and being that this is usually the most expensive component of the laptop, you may end up wanting to put that money towards a new one with full warranty rather then trying to fix this one only for another part to fail potentially shortly after.
