HDCP over Display Port on Intel iGPUs?
Did a little bit of searching and i'm stumped..
I can't tell if it's a Software problem, driver problem or actually a limitation of the iGPU or something else. PowerDVD 9's most recent update has always been a bitch for me... not sure why.. but even under the known working configuration.. it's always had a fit with stopping when I've just hit play ... hitting play a 2nd time usually things go no problemo. I've PowerDVD 11.. but currently cannot install it on the machine. Anyways heres a few details. I've got the latest revision of the P8H67-M Evo asus motherboard which has a bios on it from factory that doesn't apparently excist that has a few nice features. Running an intel i3 2120 3.3ghz cpu 2x4gb DDR1600 @ 1333mhz... yadda yadda yadda.. The board features 1x vga/1x dvi/1 HDMI/1x DP I've got an Asus VE278Q 27" Monitor with all those ports as well. Initially i setup the machine with the display port.. because frankly, it just kicks ass and works imo better than the HDMI... don't ask me why, but the brightness/color saturation is better over DP than it is over HDMI... The motherboards DP output is flawless.. audio is solid and so is the picture... as i stated..... however i ran into my hitch. I've been outfitting all my new computers with Blu-ray DVD combo drives... and of course got a bundle of powerDVD 9 for an elcheapo Blu-ray playback solution setup. Being this is my first machine I've built with pure displayport support (monitor)... i figured of all things it would just work right out of the box. Surfice it to say, i'm presented with a HDCP error when trying to force playback of any movie. Now originally i had HDMI issues with the first sandybridge boards i had gotten. Not the case anymore at least with the last few evo's I've used. So i fired up the HDMI and aside from being greeted by a black screen the moment i tried to select 1080p, which took a bit of time to remedy (not 100% sure it'll stick yet though). I got powerDVD to playback through the HDMI... DVI works, VGA works...... Display port refuses to work.... NO HDCP support. Asus and intel both say the display port should work on both the motherboard and the monitor. I think it is likely the PowerDVD software.... but i can't say for certain, cyberlink refuses to even talk about software older than it's current generation which is at the moment, powerdvd 11. I may try powerDVD 11 for shits and giggles.. but i would then have to pay for an additional copy which throws my whole thing out of wack (kinda have to activate it to use it) Even if no one on these forums knows.... i'm hoping that with google spiders, that someone may come across this post and ask the same question OR has an answer. BTW i can also say that i'm disappointed in the new intel i3's 2120 playback performance..... i think it's powerdvd 9 perhaps.. but I've installed it on other running the same resolution and it never stuttered like it does on this. Then again powerdvd keeps disabling the intel hardware acceleration feature for some unknown reason.
