Please Help Me Build a Desktop

Hi,
I am putting together a Desktop for watching stock market charts.
I will be connecting 12 Monitors ( Dell U2412M x 24 inch, 1920x1200 ) to this desktop.

Mostly I will be using 2 stock applications & couple of Word Docs & some webpages simultaneously.

OS will be Windows -7 ( Ultimate )

I will be using three ATI FirePro 2460 Graphics cards. ( I did a lot of research & chose these Low Profile cards ) AMD has specifically designed these cards for stock market applications & are used by many professionals.

I am not sure but Intel i7 2600 3.4 GHz processor should be enough ?

I am thinking about 8 GB GB DDR3 RAM

I need one DVD-RW

I guess Onboard Sound would be good enough.

Although I don’t have a budget restriction & want to build the best system, I am limited to the parts available where I am located. So you guys need to pick the parts from the following 2 websites. I am importing graphics cards since they are not available here.

http://www.theitdepot.com/
http://www.deltapage.com/

Thank You all.

Re: Please Help Me Build a Desktop

Please excuse me but I don't know what is going on when I placed this thread but I am neighter able to edit it or delete it.

I spent half an hour to correct this but I give up now.

I am really sorry if I created any confusion but this has happened to me the first time in my life in any forum & I am helpless.

If you guys have any suggestions, I will try to correct it.

Thank You.

It appears that you have HTML font colour overrides in the body of text, and the forum isn't liking it. Did you copy/paste that from another forum or document? Here it is reformatted for you:

Ok, I'm not quite sure what you've done with the formatting, so I'll leave it to someone else to help you out there (EDIT: Good job Tipstaff )

My main question with your build is why that particular card?

A card like this [ 1GB XFX HD6770 Super Eyefinity5 - HD-677X-Z5FH - Scan.co.uk ] would allow for even more displays at a much lower cost. You could also consider 6 lower end ATI cards.

Re: Please Help Me Build a Desktop

Separate post for my response.

Believe it or not you don't need a very "high end" system to be able to run those 12 monitors plus the apps your intending. Even the bottom end of the mid-range processors like the Intel i5-2320 or the i5-2400 will do you just fine, as would 4GB of RAM.

The main thing you need (if you intend to use all those graphics cards) is a board that has at least 3 PCIe 16x graphics slots (or at least full length PCIe graphics slots). For that you'd need a full length ATX board, such as (and this is going by boards on the Theitdepot site) any of the Asus P8P67 boards, the Asus P8Z68-V, all of which give you 3 PCIe graphics slots, or even the Asus Maximus IV Extreme on the high end (which accommodates 4 PCIe graphics slots), but that board is really unnecessary.

Ram is your choice, but I would personally go for stable rather than anything with high clocks. The key to remember is that by default the chipset on those boards support 1066 or 1333mhz memory, and anything beyond that is technically overclocking. The Asus boards I mentioned deal with automatically setting the speeds for you, but again, stable over faster is what you need. A such I would look at Corsairs XMS3 line or even their value line (which is cheaper per GB than the XMS3), or Kingstons value line (I find them to be very stable these days), but don't go above 1333mhz DDR3.

Hard drive wise, not sure about how much data you're going to be holding, but a 1TB hard drive, like the Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST31000524AS would be perfect. It's fast, has lots of space, and is pretty reliable. Plus it's priced right. An SSD, btw, is not needed in this case.

As for case and optical drive, anything will do. The power supply, on the other hand, is where I suggest going with a name brand PSU like Corsair or Coolermaster, mainly for reliability and quality. You also don't need to go hog wild with a high wattage power supply either. Those video cards are not just low profile but low powered cards too, each pulling no more than 13watts. A 450watt power supply would more than fulfill you power requirements for the whole system.

Edit: as a suggestion, look to the Cooler Master Elite 335 for the case. It should fit your parts just fine, plus it comes with a 500watt Coolermaster Extreme power supply too.

I would say, among other things, power requirements. As you can see from my post each of those cards uses, at most, 13 watts of power, meaning no need for an insane PSU with PCIe power plugs. Plus, they generate waaaay less heat, no noise as they are passively cooled, lower profile, and take up one slot. Only downside is that they're expensive @ $250-$300 a pop.
