Is my card or monitor shot?
Hi all:
I think one of two things may have blown on me. Below is a screenshot of my desktop. Do you think I've blown a video card or my monitor? I don't have the cash to replace both so I thought I'd ask here first before doing anything. ![]() The card is an old ATI X1800XT. I was planning on replacing it with a ASUS ENGTX560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP from Newegg. The monitor is 3 yrs old (Samsung 2253LW)Thanks for any help and advice. Chops |

Re: Is my card or monitor shot?
Any chance you can try a different monitor, or try your monitor on a different system? That's the best way to tell.

Re: Is my card or monitor shot?
I'm pretty sure that it's the card. If it were the monitor, the corruption wouldn't show on the screenshot, which is a copy of the frame buffer of the card.
EDIT: The replacement card you're looking at is a nice one, modern, decent value, decent performance, reasonable power consumption.

Re: Is my card or monitor shot?
Thanks for the fast replies.
Tyrsonswood: I don't have another system to hook the monitor up to. Lugging it to the office would require buying it a seat on the train with all the junk I have to carry. LOL IvanV: Your explaination confirms my suspicion and makes perfect sense. The screenshot wouldn't have displayed what is happening if it was monitor. I'll most likely go for a new card. The X1800 is far older than I usually keep cards (I replace them about every two years) and I suspected it might have blown. I just had no way of confirming it. Thanks again to you both for your help Chops |

Re: Is my card or monitor shot?
Hi Judas and Tipstaff:
Sorry for the long delay. Here in Connecticut we lost power for 6 days due to a brutaly wet snow storm tearing down every tree with leaves within eye-shot. My yard looks like a division of M1 Abrams came through. And to add insult to injury I didn't get one lousy number in the 247mil powerball. ![]() Thanks; Tipstaff for the heads-up on the card I'm looking at. Just as soon as the wreckage around here is cleared up I'll head on over to Newegg. Hopefully it'll still be available. Chops |
