Need HELP! Asrock or Asus

I can't decide on a motherboard for i5 2500k? I have EVGA 448 Classy (1card) and 8G Gskill Sniper Series, I will be overlocking both CPU and GPU quite heavily! (PSU: antec new TP 750w)

choices:
1. ASROCK Z68 Extreme 3 Gen3
2. Asus Maximus IV Gene-z Gen3

Asrock is roughly $50 cheaper than the Asus board

Can anyone give me some advice?

Re: Need HELP! Asrock or Asus

The thing I've come to love about ASRock boards is their built-in, logical features. I'm a big fan of ASUS boards as they've served me well over the years but ASRock boards, of late, have provided that little extra that makes all of the difference.
Take, for example, overclocking. I managed to overclock my i7 920 recently by changing one setting in the BIOS. With the 3930k I can do the same.
The Extreme3 has PCI-E 3 and has a feature that I've come to love the most about ASRock boards - space between the graphics cards. The Extreme3 has two slots separating the graphics card slots whereas the ASUS has one.

By all means, don't rule out the ASUS altogether. The Gene has onboard X-Fi sound and decent overclocking visuals and the RAM canbe over locked to 2200. It's also a solid make and can be used in a smaller case (mATX).

Personally, I'd still pick the ASRock, particularly for the PCI-E 3 and Ivybridge processor support (apparently), along with the aforementioned spacing between graphics cards.

I am very new to Asrock too, had a lot of concern with its quality, and I do expect my new coming board will last me at least 3 years until I need to upgrade to new Haswel socket board. I know the Asus Maximus board will do it, but so far i have been hearing all good things about Asrock boards that came out lately! It is really Rocking lol. I am just concerned if it will rock me for the next 3 years.

I will take your advice into consideration, as I still have 1 week to return my Maximus IV gene-z.

Any particular reason for your choice? Durability? OC performance?

If memory serves it was Veridian that said he changed to an X58 Extreme6 and requires as close to 100% uptime as possible. So yeah, reliability's there.
I'd swear by ASRock or ASUS any day for reliability.

Re: Need HELP! Asrock or Asus

I've had a number of Asrock boards over the years and never had any problems with them. Though, I haven't had any problems with my Asus boards either so I guess it's a matter of taste.

Asrock tends to have some odd solutions sometimes but I've never really heard anything negative about that. They've always been fast with BIOS updates as well to support new CPU's and such and that's always a plus.

Re: Need HELP! Asrock or Asus

Despite it having a taste of a secondrate motherboard manufacturer, which I think I can spot in your phrasing, it is not. Even if it once was.. it is not anymore.
It is definately up there with the likes of Gigabyte and Asus.

Look at what you need, than look for a motherboard that fits those descriptions.. it is no use paying extra bucks for features you're never gonna use anyway.

Good to know these boards do perform well as they intend to. I do prefer Asus, however I don't have a rich wallet xD. But I can't seem to reject the excitement of getting a ROG board lol. It's true Asrock is on its way to the top motherboard brands, the extreme series and the fatality series have gained thumb up from many experienced pc builder all over the net. But this time i think i will go with Asus! In 2-3 years, when Haswell sits in the market, I will get an Asrock's top board for my new guild.

I do prefer the sound card in the Gene-Z board, and also the OC utility provided along. It really interests me more than the Extreme3. However, Asrock is definitely the top choice in my mind when considering a motherboard now.
