Kepler

Today, the supposed specs of the Nvidia Kepler line has been leaked.

http://en.expreview.com/2012/02/06/e...hed/20836.html

It details cost, core clocks, memory and more. As far as I'm concerned, these are only the desktop versions. Does anyone know anything about the laptop versions or when they will be released?

UPDATE: Sorry, not today but rather last week or so. The link is also not the original, but still the same charts.

This is gonna kill AMD cards lol, well too expensive at this point, and is there a game that MUST require these cards?

The specs don't add up after you analyze them. The prices vary greatly from $200 to $1000.BF3 on extreme detail.

I wouldn't even consider this to be in the approite topic. More news related than anything.
And if it is, my bad that part.
Question is, is April the date we must wait for Ivy Bridge and 600m?

Re: Kepler

That naming system is even more retarded than usual. What happened to calling cards of the same chip the same number, and using letters to differentiate? It made massivley more sense. (So the GTX680, 670 and 660Ti should be the GTX680, GTS680 and GT680 respectivley.)

Personally, however, I'd consider this a rumour until Nvidia or a reputable review site actually confirm anything.

Re: Kepler

Pretty much anything you read about the new NV cards at the moment is based on guesswork and a bit of imagination. The only people who know exact details about the card are those under NDA really and none of those people want to get sued or lose the ability to keep getting future products early.

Re: Kepler

You only need to look at the claimed 45% overhead on the 7970 to know it's just wishful thinking by someone. I don't doubt it will be faster but seriously, I can't imagine they will beat it by that much.

It's just like it is everytime something new is around the corner. When the cards are out and they show perhaps a 5% overhead at best everyone will deny ever knowing about these speculations.

Re: Kepler

The 580m is still king of the hill. I think the only big name companies that offer the 580m in their laptops are Alienware and MSI in the states. Do you guys know of any other brands? I really would like an Alienware, but the majority of reviews complain about the BSOD and such. What would you reccomend?

I guess we won't know until April for sure what Nvidia will release. We will know one thing; it will be better and faster than AMD.

Re: Kepler

I'm sorry if this sounds obvious, but if you're thinking of dropping enough money on a laptop that you're in 580m territory, are you sure you want a laptop?

A desktop that will perform similarly to a 580m powered laptop can be well under the £500 mark ($750, but probably less as parts are cheaper in the U.S.) leaving plenty spare for a solid laptop with a lesser GPU.

If you really must spend so much on a laptop that you could have bought a very nice used car, put down a sizable chunk of a desposit on a house or pay your living costs for a substansial length of time, yes the 580m is still of the hill, but that isn't going to be the case for much longer. Furthermore, the primary advantage of the new generation of GPUs is lower power usage, and that's far more relevant in the mobile space.

This is true. I just got caught up in all the features that it had. (I.E. WiHD, lighting.)
I would really like to build. I just dont want to have to worry about RMA'ing parts that don't work.

I've started this 3 times. This will be my last. What is the best possible motherboard for socket LGA 1155? Budget is $2000, give or take. GTX 580 or Radeon 7970?

Why don't you read around a bit, then get together a build that you like, then start a thread with a (cropped) screenshot of the Newegg basket. Then we can say how we might like to change it.

And while you are at it...with that budget go X79 and the new i7-3930K. And yes, 7970 (unless you want to game in 3D).

Re: Kepler

Depends. With a budget like that, I'd be tempted to stay P67/Z68 and put the extra into monitors, a desk, or an amazing storage subsystem.

I've already got built in desks that are vacant right now, with enough storage to hide/put ANYTHING.

We are just moving in so everything works out perfectly, desk right next to gameroom and media room.

I need some money for a monitor, and I would rather spend more money on the graphics card than the CPU.

Ahh, thought that was storage within more storage. Weird...Ha

What's a good 200 GB SSD? Post in the new thread if possible.
