Cheap but good gaming mouse
My budget is low, so the less it costs, the better it is for my budget.

Yeah the cheapest will always be plasticky. Maybe Logitech's G400, it can be found fairly cheap and has a good "heritage" shape. Haven't used it myself but it seems liked.

re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
That price range would be tolerable.
I've always thought it was plasticky though, from the looks of it. The shape doesn't look to comfortable either, and the side buttons look like an old mobile phone buttons that fall off after 2 months of intense use. Don't get me wrong, I'm criticizing the mouse not the suggestion. It's still an option in case there won't be other suggestions. The more suggestions the better.

re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
The shape may look odd but at least to me the Razer shapes have never really fit as naturally as the Logitech shapes. The mouse that the G400 replaced, the old MX518 was both rugged and comfortable. Hands differ though, that's for sure.

re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
Mine are quite big. When I take Deathadder in my hand, full grip (comfortably), my fingertips still stick out, maybe 7mm or so at the end. So I wouldn't mind a bit bigger mouse even.
I think I would also like the right-hand design. I've never tried one, but I've observed how I grip my mouse. I think it would be more comfortable... So that would also be a plus. Last edited by HHD; Nov 22, 2012 at 12:42 PM. |

If you like Razer DeathAdder, take a look at the Sharkoon Fireglider. The two mice are remarkably similar and I know that many are very happy with their Firegliders.

I have huge hands (fat and wide rather than long and slim), and although it doesn't look like it should be big enough, the SteelSeries Xai laser is actually just comfortable enough, and a great mouse
![]() I've pretty much ditched my RAT to use the Xai full time now |

I'm surprised that nobody suggested the CM Storm Spawn. I've seen that in high regard on this forum, seems compact too.

re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
Xai's a bit costly, but I'm still considering it at the moment. I've a cloth mousepad (not plastic or metal), I've read that it collects dust (the laser) really easily though.

Takaharu - I don't need compact. I need big. I have long and slim hands and I like having my hand glued to the mouse, relaxed.

Maybe this mouse from A4Tech can be suitable for you:

re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
The G9x is a small mouse made for claw grip. It's about 19mm shorter in length than the Deathadder, but it is wider with either grip attached (73mm and 82 respectively), smaller without.
For comparison here's the Deathadders dimensions: 5.00”/127mm long 2.76” / 70mm wide 1.73” / 44mm deep BTW, you mentioned that your fingers stick off the end of the Deathadder by 7mm. I take it that you use a palm grip? One mouse to consider would be the Zowie EC1. It's literally identical to the Deathadder, optical (instead of infrared) with a high DPI, and a high polling rate too, but it's usually the same price as the Deathadder @ $60. Another would be the Tt Black Element, shorter by 4mm, but again, same price. Personally I would take a look at the Logitech G400 ($40, almost identical to the old G5 v2) or G500 ($65). Both are longer than the Deathadder (by 2mm), wider (by 6mm), yet both are the same height (G400 might be 1mm shorter), which is important seeing as you're a palm grip, and are used to the height of the DA. 'Course, the G500 is the more expensive option though. |

I guess I am using the palm grip then. ![]() Unfortunately Zowie isn't available here, and TT is too costly - $90. :/ I have replied about G400 above, as for G500 - it's $80 here, so that's a bit too much as well. :/ I assume you have used G400, so some comment would be very interesting.

re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
I've got one, but mine was a lot cheaper than even that model, only ~7€ at the time, I think. Years later, after a lot of use and a little bit of abuse, it still operates fine, and BTW it's a laser mouse with about... 8 buttons, although two or three aren't programmable, but you might not like it because of how cheap the plastic it's made of feels (it was a little bit of a disappointment for me as well when I first unwrapped it). Still, I know that not all of their products have that cheap feel, and I would guess that that especially applies to their higher end products, so A4 are an option.

HHD, try http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/...11051_161.html which has a great selection and they ship to your location for €22. Not cheap shipping but maybe worth it with the wide selection of mice and decent prices.
Having a look through the listings I would say: http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/...pi::13318.html (Old model but a great body and heavily discounted) http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/...ed::18427.html (A newish model, released this year. Decent build quality but lacks side buttons) |

Comparing the G400 to the Deathadder... the first thing you'll notice is the DPI difference, although this all depends on how old your Deathadder is (the older the narrower the range). The newer DA is pretty much on par with the G400 dpi wise, but the older DA's didn't go as low nor as high as the G400. The Deathadder's side buttons are actually usable due to their size. The G400 (and other models with the same design like the MX518 and G5)... I've never liked the size nor placement of the side buttons. They're too small and too high. My friend loved it though as he found it easier NOT to hit them like he did on his DA all the time, but I hated having to "reach up" for them, probably because I'm tend to jump back and fourth between a claw and finger grip style (you can see a video on the 3 grip styles HERE). Something else, but maybe not as big a deal, is that the sensor is in the same location for both mice: dead center of the mouse. The G9x, for instance, has the sensor in the center right. This is helpful for palm style users as the sensors position is going to be relative to the center of your grip/hand. One BIG thing, if you do pick the G400, get as new a G400 as you can, one that has a PID # higher than LZ13333 (it literally says PID, not serial number or SN or S/N), or one that has an actual serial number. Why? The newer ones have angle snapping disabled (aka mouse prediction, aka mouse path correction) while the older ones have it enabled (I think it's off by default, but you can enable it in the SetPoint software.. can't remember for sure). Not sure how old your DA is, or if you've updated the firmware for it, but from what I recall the DA doesn't have AS on (or doesn't any more.. or is reduced.. or was adjusted in the software... or was removed in a firmware update... something like that). Razer used to call this "Drift Control", so you might recognize that name if it's there as an option. Anyways, open up MS Paint, and attempt to draw a straight horizontal line. If AS is on, the mouse will attempt to predict your movement, and the line will be almost perfectly straight.. or straight for the most part (try slow and fast movements). If AS is off (or reduced) that line should be less straight.. unless you're really damn good at mouse movement. Where this comes into play is with FPS games. If you've got a bead on someones head with a rifle, and that person is keeping the same elevation moving or not, you're more likely to better track that guys head with your cursor when AS is turned on because the mouse is doing the work for you. If it's off, that tracking will be a little bit more erratic, but the upside, for someone that can track a targets head going from one elevation to another, back and fourth, or where the person is jumping around... having AS off makes a world of difference. Those people are hindered by AS. If your DA has that function off you shouldn't notice a difference with a newer G400, but if it's turned on in your DA, you'll notice the difference when you start using a newer G400 that has it off. Interestingly, the Logitech G9x has the option in SetPoint (their software/driver) to turn Angle Snapping off (as does the G500).

To clear some things up: I have the old version of Deathadder and I do not like movement correction. In fact, I had a mouse that had it on by default, I found it VERY annoying, so I installed the drivers and found out how to disable it. It was horrible, same as acceleration... Anyway, I don't accidentally click buttons, and I like my buttons as you do - easily reachable, like Deathadder's. That's, actually, the main concern for me when considering G400... I'm afraid that the buttons will be very uncomfortable - too high, and too "phone-like," too small... There isn't much difference between flat finger grip and palm grip, the difference that I see is palm grip moves the whole hand, which I don't do. So I probably use flat finger grip then. But anyway, my grip's a bit different than both of them, somewhere in the middle. |

In any case, I'm a mix of fingertip (flat) and claw. By this I mean I hold it in a fingertip stance (gap between the back of the mouse and my palm), and move it side to side in that grip, but I also move/hold it with a bit of claw grip, especially in my up/down movement. Because of this my thumb never reaches the side buttons on my G5 (or the G400) as it sits on inside back curve. You could say I.. well.. I kinda cradle it's ass with my thumb... so to speak . I also use my index and middle finger for the buttons with my index pulling double duty for the scroll/middle button.

Re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
I think I use a similar claw-like grip and mostly move the mouse from the wrist. For such "technique", larger but lighter mice should be preferable.
![]() I took a look at a few Roccat mice today, on most of them I had the impression that my thumb was too deep inside the "groove" on the side, to the point that the side buttons are not easily reached. |

Re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
Here is a guide for the OP and everyone else to easily determine which grip they use on the Razer webpage:-
http://www.razerzone.com/mouseguide/ergonomic I myself am currently using the new Razer Imperator 2012 edition and I love it, was using a Razer Deathadder before that. You might want to wait for the new Razer Deathadder to come out and get that HHD. The Roccat Kone would also be an excellent mouse from what I have heard of it although I myself have never used one. I was considering getting one instead of my Imperator and the Imperator was a real gamble, but I think the Razer Imperator is one of the most underrated mice out there. I myself use the palm grip and have long slender fingers and a long hand as well. |

![]() can't imagine the new Deathadder is going to be "cheap" and Ivan, think i use a claw grip, and i like a nice heavy mouse (usually), i think with a claw grip where you lead with the wrist it's very much personal preference, no ? anywho, another to consider (although i personally hated it, everybody else seems to love it) is the CM Storm Sentinel Z3RO-G like i say, lots of folk love it, and it def is very suited to those who prefer a larger mouse, it's a good size ![]() the software is pretty nice to use too |

Re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
The new Razer Deathadder is going to go for $69.99 here in Canada and the US so I'm not sure if it will be 69.99 Euros over there but it would be worth it. I want to go back to using the Razer Deathadder, it has been by far the best mouse I've ever owned. I mostly played RTS games with it, however. The Logitech G5 was the best mouse I have ever owned FPS wise, during the time I owned it I mostly played FPS games especially TF2 but I also did play quite a bit of DotA with it too.

Re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
Unfortunately CM Storm Sentinel Z3RO-G isn't available.
Where can I find more info on HDD Deathadder? Is it the "2013" one? It looks awesome. However it costs 70eu, excluding tax, shipping, customs and postal service. So total would be close to 100eu... That's way, WAY out of my budget. I browser the site about styles, I'm in between finger and palm grip. I used to be claw-gripper, but that's because I haven't tried a mouse like Deathadder.Anyway, I'm having doubts if it's worth buying any mouse in the first place... All I can afford is an average, possibly uncomfortable, mouse. :/ On the other hand, right now I'm stuck with a really old ball-tracker (or how it's called) mouse. |

Re: Cheap but good gaming mouse
The Deathadder 3500 is cheaper here by $27 right now, $17 when not on sale while the G400 is cheaper there by $6, $21 when not on sale. Go figure that one out.
@ HDD: BTW, just out of curiosity, how old is your DA? Are you thinking of replacing it, and if so, why? Or are you looking to buy a replacement as a backup/secondary mouse? |
