New computer case....Now I have new problems.

Ok so my brother got a new computer case (Xaser II A5000A Plus) and we decided to switch all his hardware from the old case to the new case. I was going to test to see if all the fans were working properly so I connected the main ATX power to the motherboard and all the fans. Upon pluggin the Power in the wall I heard a little ringing but no movement in the computer. I took a few pics to show you the only thing (power) I had going into the motherboard which is right next to the CPU. With just that plugged in wouldnt the CPU fan turn on and spin. I hooked up all the little power switch, Leds, etc. but nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing?

Here are the pics of what I had connected at the time.

Pic 2 http://home.wi.rr.com/mikew34/Steves%20Comp2.JPG
Pic 3 http://home.wi.rr.com/mikew34/Steves%20Comp3.JPG

Thanks, and hopefully someone can send me some suggestions.

Actually, you should be able to fire up a motherboard with only the following: CPU/RAM/Power... and some the switch.... If the main power doesn't appear to be working... (or you not sure), pull the switch out and put the reset switch in it's place... now to turn it on, you have to press and HOLD the reset switch.... if that doesn't work.... maybe a dead psu? hope nothing else is wrecked..

Thanks for the replys guys. I tried what you both mentioned but still no solution. All that happens when I plug the power in (the black cable into the wall) is I hear a little ringing noise but no movement in the computer. I tested two other power supplies but still the same thing. Could something have been destroyed like a motherboard...processor....etc? Which I hope not. Also I'm almost positive all the little Led, Power, Reset switches are in the right place connected to the motherboard.

Ok then lets test the psu mike....take the psu out of the case or leave it in just disconnect from everything....get a paper clip....or a wire of some sort....and put one end in the hole that coresiponesed with the green wire on the plug that goes to the mobo.... make sure that he switch on the back of the psu is in the on position.... then take the other end and plug it into any of the black...or ground wire holes....that will kick that psu on ... the fan should them move....and if it does the psu presumabley works...the green wire is the soft power on wire just for reference.

Could be destroyed yeah, I did once a Case change, and layed my Mobo on the (Nylon) tapestry,
made a nice tingeling sound, but never worked again, but being stubbornly stupid ;bought a new Mobo +Amd tb1.4,
and assembled that too on the same tapestry, was an expensive day

That green wire is also the wire you tap into for as DUAL PSU setup- I think it's #14.

I had the same problem at one time

You may want to remove the heatsink off the cpu to check it. Becasue I fried one of my 1900+ MP's and did the same thing all it would do is ring and no smell. Just a thought

Ok I laid out the motherboard on some cardboard like Sourcer said but I have the same problem. I hooked up the power suplly from my computer to test a second PSU but that didnt make anything work either. My guess is either the CPU or motherboard is fried. Is the only way to see if the CPU is dead is by taking the heatsink off and look for some kind of melt? Thanks again for the replys.

Just a thought......but you may want to check the memory in another computer. Also you should look at the main power plug on the motherboard. In most cases....bad CPU, Memory, or motherboard will keep the PSU from starting up. And have you cleared the CMOS? and checked all of your jumpers?

Let us know how it goes.

exactly what he said but ..

1) try taking out the bios battery power.. etc (probly wont do any thign but at ur point u should try every thing possable)

2) try a differnt cpu

3) try ur cpu on a nother mobo

4) see if ur stuff is still under warranity if it is call the place up tell em some lame excuse like it just stoped working after playing unreal or somthing like that DO NOT tell them u moved ur hardware from one computer to a nother .. also never say u overclocked ( if u did that is ) they will most likly say OK ! heres ur rma number send it to blah blah blah and they will send u a refubished one as soon as they recieve it ... and if u hate refurbished well who cares it better then having a broken hardware unless u love paperweights

If you were shorting the board on the back of the case, like i assume and the board did fry or the CPU fryed .... looked and the back of the core in the middle between the pins on the back side for a burn make or a heatbubble....also check the mobo around the cpu socker for a burn mark.

The heatsink is stock so it just has a cord to the CPU Fan slot on the motherboard. I took the motherboard out of the case and placed it on cardboard and still the same problem. Is there any way to tell if the motherboard itself is fried? I really think that's what the problem is. I will look for a Warranty card later. Thanks again fro all ur help guys.

OK so here is what i've done to check the hardware and I'll remind u still have the problem

1) checked it with another power supply (mine which is working and 100% tested. I'm using it right now to power my computer)

2) Tested the Ram with working Ram in both of the 184 pin slots.

3) took out the BIOS battery and switched it with a known working one.

4) Cleared the CMOS (using the jumper)

5) Took off the heatsink to check the processor for any burn marks (Found nothing on both motherboard and CPU. Still looks brand new....which it pretty much is)

6) Took the motherboard out of the case and put it on that anti electric static bag it came with and did all the above.

However after all the above...still no life......Fried motherboard anyone? lol

OK this will probably be my last post in this thread because I got the thing working. Turns out the motherboard was dead because I went out and bought a Asus A7V8X-X motherboard and it works like a champ. I'd like to once again thank everyone and thier suggestions for trying to help.
