I'm talking to this guy who thinks 1000mb=1gb. but WE all know better. I need technical data and other proofs that it's 1024mb=1gb, etc.

Dude, you're both right . . . it's better to not argue about the minor things in life anyway.

But, if you want the technical explanation:
1GB can mean either "gigabyte" or "gibibyte", depending on who's saying it.
Gigabyte: giga means billion, so gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Gibibyte: the 'bi' in there is for binary, so it's binary style (2^10 instead of 1000) - 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024 mebibytes*)

Through the years, people have mixed them up so much, that we usually call 1,073,741,824 bytes a gigabyte,
even though many hard drive manufacturers still go by the original "1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes" . . . it helps their drives look a bit larger.

Basically, GB can mean either thing nowadays. HD makers mean gigabyte when they say it (which is only a billion bytes),
and most computer users mean gibibyte when they say GB (even though they call it a "gigabyte" anyway).

If anyone can correct me on any of this, feel free. I'm just going by memory.
