thougts about the upcoming rig

Hey guys.

i thougt about buying a new super rig (with Vapochill and stuff) but got to the conclusion that it isn't worth it at this time of the year because of the upcoming Prescott technology, the R400/V40 that are being prepeard probably, the possible PCI-Express and actually much more possible "upgrades" and enhancments to the computer industry. So i decided to delay that super computer to about July 2004. i think that is about the time that the technology will be more clarified about the future, the Prescott will be probably Tejas already, and the new VPU's will come out for sure.... (what do you think about this decision?)

meanwhlie i decided to buy a nice rig for the upcoming year or so that i can overclock and enjoy playing with and using.
i currently have a 2.53ghz, Gigabyte mobo based of 850 chipset, and 1024 1066rdram with a r9700p....
i decided to buy this new rig:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4C 800Mhz
Asus P4P800 I865P (w/ PAT)
Corsair PC3500 DDR433 (512x2)
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
Hercules Digifire 7.1
Plextor PX-708A Black DVDRW
Plextor 52x32x52 Premium Black CDRW
Western Digital Raptor 36.7 Gb 10k Rpm 8mb Cache
Pinnacle PCTV Pro
Logitech Cordless MX
Coolermaster ATC-201A-SX1
80mm Vantec Stealth Fan (x4)
Thermaltake TT480APD PFC 2 Fan 480w

the cooling i thought about is actually the stock cooling of the P4 and replacing the 4 fans that come with the coolermaster with silent fans... will this be loud? i need it preety cooled so i can get a decent o/c (like about 3ghz+ ).....

if you have any suggestions or replacements, comments about the cooling or anything else... let me know!

cheers!

For cooling the processor I would definitely go Alpha, since you can put any fan you want on it and it's guaranteed to keep that P4 nice and cool. I had one on my 2.26P4 that did an amazing job. You also might want to go Panaflo over Coolermaster for your case fans.

hey there, what do you mean by Alpha?
and about the Panaflo: i live in Israel, u can't get those here.... so i guess the Vantec are the next choice in stealth fans.

" understand there are people that will sacrifice performance for a quieter computer. Those people, most likely, aren't going to want to shell out the money for an Alpha either. "

that is from the link you posted... im one of those people. im looking for a quiet rig that i can o/c.
and therefore i think i can handle with the stock cooling that i understand is preety silent.

Well remember this is the reviewer's opinion. If you think about it a heatsink like that with a quiet fan will do much better than the stock P4 cooling, your asking quite a bit for a 600MHz OC w/ stock cooling. I wouldn't feel comfortable with it.
