cpu heatsink
just would like to know how do you take the heatsink of the motherboard socket 478.
never had to do this myself but can't clearly see how to do it. just worried about pulling at it to hard and damaging the cpu or mobo. |

I can be complicated, is it bolted on or clipped on?

loos to me that its clipped that is partly the reason i'm not sure on how to remove it,i say cilpped on due to it looks like 2 silver retaining clips one on either side of it.

OK, its pretty easy, you just push down on one side (usually the side thats higher) untill that side comes off the notch. Then it will just pop off on the other side. Its hard to mess it up due to the P4s heat spreader. You need to be more careful on AXP cpus.

Johny, don't worry -- you aren't going to be able to hurt a P4. They're rugged.

thanx the advice is taken well but there is nothing wrong with a little caution due to the price it can cost if things doe happen to go wrong.
