Bios help

Is there anyway I can unlock my bios settings? I go to the bios screen and there is really nothing there on my bios screen. I'm running a Dell 8250. If anyone can help, I appreciate it. Thanks.

Sorry, Luck, brand-name computers usually have very limited options available in the BIOS, and I don't think there's any way to "un-lock" it.

the trouble is that is that only mods an image .bin .awd of you bios then you flsh it in... dell pcked thier bioes in self flashing.exe files... does not have any unpcked version avaliable...

there is no utillity that will read the bios to a image and then to fash it after mod...

so no that wont work... it getting the bios image and a utillity to read/flsh that the issue ...

I've always wondered something though, couldn't you just buy a motherboard compatible with all the components/case and hook it up, reformat, reinstall windows and have your own PC w/o all the Dell restrictions? Just wondering because I've never owned one of those.

I had this problem with my 1st PC. An HP pavilion. It cost me an arm and a leg to buy it and then when I got my new top end graphics card (Riva TNT2 Ultra) and opened the case, lo and behold, no AGP slot on the board even though it was sold to me as having AGP graphics.

I had to buy a new motherboard to use it and was quite happy with that. It gave me much more control over my system and it was like buying a new pc all over again only for a fraction of the cost.

In some cases.... brand name pcs have specific hardware to hardware configurations....when you pull the plug on one...sometimes it take the rest with it... (i've experienced this with multiple compaqs).... Ram is usually one thing that doesn't agree.... however, in the last 2 years...this for sure, shouldn't be the case..... The harddrive, floppy, cdrom.... some pci cards (modems usually are hard to get working on different machines)..... sound cards are usually good.... graphics.... well that's a different story as some companies like to revise some boards and put there name in it somewhere.... and they state that you must use THIER drivers to get it to work right as the reference sometimes and most likely won't work...(i've trired...them bastards)

Yeah, compaqs are a real pain when it comes to RAM. We've got loads of compaqs at work and they have to use compaqs own RAM. Some of the desktop machines will work with different ram but the laptops wont even boot. Then you goto compaq to buy some ram and you die of fright when they tell you the price.
