56k dial up modem?

my mom in laws 56k modem died (lightning she thinks..) I am very far from the dial up 56k market so wondered if anyone here can recommend a cheap one that is good? checked on US Robotics but seems they've gone downhill and creative seems to be lacking in the modem dept. as well.... any recommedations or donations

I ALWAYS put compaq modems in PC's i build. Never once have they failed me.

If its for XP a lot of cheap modems have driver issues, not the compaqs.

blah, those cnr/amr modems just sucks. Shuki, try to find a real 56k modem, not a winmodem.

well good or bad I ordered a Creative Modem Blaster V.92 PCI 56k Modem - OEM Version V.44 from newegg for $22 shipped.....
