I have the same problem and its been buggin me for ages. It sounds just like a short muffled beep. I thought it was a fan so I took them all out. Still did it. I have a new hard drive now so it couldn't be that. Do you run a 9700 or 9800 Pro by any chance? My old 9700Pro used to do this but the noise would stay on and get quieter. The only way to solve it was to turn it off and back on. I kind of think it may be my 9800Pro fan just moving slightly - although it shouldn't do this.

Ah well, not the same as my prob then. doubt it would be the HDD though as when they go you usually get no warning and sometimes a clunking noise as windows boots (or not)

I've heard that buzz sound before too, like something rubbing against a fan for a second or two. Doesn't happen often, but makes me jump when it happens because my leg is right by the tower.
Since all the fans I can get to are clean, I figure it's the fans in the power supply getting attacked by a viscious dust-bunny within the PSU. My bro says that I should clean it out, but I REALLY don't want to disconnect all the wiring, pull the PSU and clean it. It's just a pain. He says it will be a bigger pain if the PSU blows out because of possible conductivity of the offending dust-ball hitting components within the PSU. So, that's my guess, dust in the PSU breaking loose and hitting the fans in the PSU and either getting spit out or chewed to harmlessness. |
