CPU Upgrade

I have somehow managed to have a spare motherboard so I might aswell whack a CPU onto it and have a 2nd PC. Atm my setup has a 2000xp which will go into the spare motherboard. I have been told by a friend that he could OC a athlon 2500xp into a 2800xp which sounds tempting. I'm not a big fan of OC'ing but it seems ok if he can get it first time. If I choose not to get a 2500 to be OC'd I'd probably buy a 2800xp anyway as it is to me best value on the market. What do you think?

Honesty...

It's up to you it's your money but the 2500 is a great over clocker. However, I see your running the same board I am what revision is it?

The revision of the motherboard, it's located in between the lower PCI slots. There is three versions of this board.

1. 1.04
2. 1.06
3. 2.0

If you have purchased your board recently it more than likely is the revision 2 board which runs better than previous versions.

Your not, it is kinda hard to see sometimes. However, it really depends if you feel comfortable OC'ing. Do you have enough airflow in your case, the proper heatsink/fan, and how warms does the room your PC get?

Just remember a 2500 maybe cheaper but you will have to invest more money to cool it properly.

Check out this site.

SLK-800a

The SLK-900 will not fit on the Asus A7N8X without bending things to there limit, though in most case's the SLK-800 (a) will fit without a problem.

On the processor thing, my suggestion would be to by the 2500+ Barton, and a good cooling solution and use the extra dough to upgrade any part of your system that may be lacking cooling. A good passive cooler on your south bridge would be a nice bonus on that board. If you have PC3200 or PC3500 memory, 2500+ Barton, most any NF2 Rev. 2 board, and good cooling......then you should have NO problem turning that 2500+ Barton into a 3200+ Barton. People are doing it everyday.

Do yourself a favor and do some research for yourself on your board and what is working best for it.

Good luck!!!

Damnit Roadee beat me to the punch. But I second the SLK800a as a solution, I have a Swiftec myself which is nice but $$$ and it's a bitch to get on and off. However, one site you should look at is http://www.nforcershq.com/ for starters.
