In response to this post, has anyone had any odd problems with these? My friend had Norton die on him completely, also his network connection.

I installed them. Things DO seem a little snappier. I haven't encountered any problems yet. Bootup and shut down seem a little quicker, I didn't lose any video performance by 3DMark01 standards and my net connection still works. I didn't test the harddrive speed prior to installing them, so I wouldn't know if PCMark would rate the transfer speeds any better.

The only "issue" was that it made me re-activate Windows upon rebooting after the update. (I only re-formatted about a month ago and didn't change a dang thing except the 4in1's) I told the MS guy on the phone that all I did was update the chipset drivers and now it says I have to re-activate, he said, "That'll do it.", so I guess that's OK then.

Just out of curiosity, I asked the guy a question. I told him that I update my system about every six months (I do know about the 4 month thing with activation), and asked him if I'll be able to use my original CD key when that day comes. He said I would. So now I know for sure on that issue.

BTW, I have an OFFICIAL version of WinXP home, not a pirate version.

My verdict on the 4.49 4in1's: It is good....at least, so far....

EDIT: NASTY ISSUE!!! When I booted my system just a minute ago(cold boot), it did a 3-part type of scandisk. I never, EVER saw that before. Scoped Windows Update and, sure enough, there was a VIA IDE driver it said needed to be downloaded (May 13, 2003). Must be why VIA Arena doesn't have these suckers listed yet.

Had this happen to me now as well, computer restarts to fast... and then one of my drives is stuck in a endless checkdisk process at restart... and I cant defragment the drive once in windows cause it keeps nagging about restarting so it can do a checkdrive scan. Oh great.

Other than that its a real smooth performance improvement...

They have added some more details to installation (which version etc.).
I haven't benched actually, but seems good so far.
