HELP Barton 2500+ @ 502mhz?
I just picked this sucker up.... it works flawlessly....but something wrong with my motherboard not recognizing it right!...
When i posts.. this is what it says: AMD Athlon XP (tm) 500~Mhz Now, if i go into the bios, it says: AMD 2500+ 166mhz FBS Mutliplyer is at 11 (or 11.5 i think) Anyways, who cares about that other stuff.... just that it's saying to different things.. SO, i booted into windows...no problem..noticed that it's a slow poke going (had a 1900+ before) I checked out a few tools to confirm that it's running 500mhz...... well..here: What i want to know.... is if my motherboard is for sure...not working right...or that the cpu must be a dud... I can't seeing the cpu being messed... i must say, it's weird seing a athlon xp running at like 29*C with a stock heatsink and fan.... I have an ABIT AT7-MAX2.... with the DD bios.. (which, today, i checked and is still the latest).... HOWEVER, i don't see a barton 2500+ being supported.... i see something for the 2600.... but nothing for the 2500... You think i should e-mail them? (just want to see if i'm doing something wrong maybe) ALSO, i did ...before putting the new cpu in.... reset the bios.... and after putting the new one...made sure by reseting the cmos.. What i don't get...is some things i switch on and off...that really don't effect the system much..... ends up refuseing the system to boot.... Maybe something to do with the cpu........ PLEASE.. HELP.... i want my machine running!

You will need to change the multi and the FSB........change it to something like 10x and 133......do a reboot and see what comes up.......if CPU Z is showing those changed settings......then go back into the BIOS and change it to 11x 166......save and exit......then go into windows and check CPU Z again.
Let me know how it goes.

Very unusual........keep the 100 fsb......and start bringing up your multi from 5...one at a time and let it go all the way into windows. Also what memory are you running?

I'm running PC2700 DDR 333mhz.... (it runs flawlessly i know for a fact)..... I can't set the cpu any lower then 2500+.... enless i do user defined..... in this case..i'm not quite sure how to set it all up... the multiplyers and the deviders... haven't overclocked didly... (well vid cards).... ALSO, i can't seem to boot up either if i set it to 500mhz... (100mhz fbs and 5x multiplyer)

For the user defined setting's.......you will only set the multi to 11x and FSB to 166 (stock 2500+) memory should be set to synch/100%........CPU/Vcore voltage should be auto detect (1.65v) memory/Vdimm voltage should be auto detect or 1.7v........though I usually run it at 1.8 just to make sure things are more stable.

My PSU is perfect.... 350 WATT ENERMAX.... dual fan.... i'm really not understanding this at all..... the only thing that looks like it'd be messed up is the motherboard.... it just doesn't seem to support it AT ALL

what processor did you have in there before? It looks like you have the latest BIOS and everything.......really doesn't make sense. I have ran several searches and found several people using your MB and CPU combo.... I will keep looking and see what I can find.

from abit.com.tw
1: Switch off the power supply unit and then switch it on again after one minute. If there isn't a switch on it, pull off the power cord for one minute and then pull it back. Press the "Insert" key on the keyboard and don't loosen it, meanwhile, press the power-on button to boot up system. If it works, loosen the "Insert" key and hit "Del" key to enter the BIOS setup page to do correct settings. If still can't help, repeat step 1 three times or try step 2. 2: Switch off the power supply unit or pull off the power cord, and then open the chassis. There is a CCMOS jumper near the battery. Change the jumper position from default 1-2 (Figure.1) to 2-3 (Figure.2) for one minute to discharge the CMOS data, and then put it back to default 1-2 (Figure.1). Close the chassis and switch on the power supply unit or pull in the power cord. Press the power-on button to boot up system. If it works, hit "Del" key to enter the BIOS setup page to do correct settings. If still can't help, try step 3. 3: The same procedure as step 2, meanwhile, pull up ATX power connectors from mainboard and take away mainboard battery during CMOS discharging.

Is there a jumper somewhere on the mobo, to enable 166MHz bus? my only idea
![]() Also, can you run AMD's cpuinfo prog, and see what it says?

cpuz, aida32, windows, bios, post, cpuid are shitty stuff for cpu reconization.... I know a lot of ppl that all those progs reported wrong cpu speed/version. I only trust SANDRA.

Why don't you try WCPUID? That program works flawlessly. CPU-Z never worked for me. Supposedly, if CPU-Z were accurate, my processor is currently running at 54000 mhz
...... so yeah... trust your bios, not cpu-z. (and check wcpuid).

thanks sinjin...but i've tried some of that stuff.... i think abit has to come out with a bios update...because there are other people with the same board that are having troubles with ONLY the barton 2500+...it's rather strange... I've used everything from Sandra 2003 to 3Dmark03 to the cpu-z.... i've tried the amd thingy to.... All say 502mhz athlon xp barton.... but unknown xxxx+ model speed.... Like i've said, the bios setup sees it as a 2500+ barton, running 166 FBS (x2) at 1.83 ghz.... but when it posts.... it's 500mhz.... BTW, abit's been running completely jumperless boards for awhile now.... the only thing that is a jumper is the cmos reset.... as sinjin shows....

ok...ok.... get this.... after letting the machine sit an hour or 2..... i fire it up... still 500mhz.... tried the same things... this time.... it's 1100+ mode.... now....adjusted a few more things..... which i had done before.... and it's 2500+.. i'm like sweet.... but most of everything is turned off..... so i went back in ...set everything the way it should... full speed... FBS 166..you name it... all workz like a charm...... and....i must say... a large difference between 1900+ T-Bred and 2500+ Barton.... And my CPU temp and system temp are down 10*C... now running full load at 42*C

I am glad to see that you got it up and running........though....I think I would be looking for a new motherboard before you even consider OC'ing that thing. Something just isn't right there......

Don't know if i said this.... but abit AT7-MAX2 has an obvious flaw when it comes to the 2500+.... all the other CPU's seem to work flawlessly.... According to reviews..with early version... the sucker can overclock very well...and with what i have for a system...i should be plenty fine....
