Hello,
Looking to repalce my current IDE hard drive with a SATA hard drive. Looking at getting two Western Digital Raptor 36.7GB Serial ATA 10000RPM hard drives ![]() Want to run them in RAID 0 on a Abit IC7 mother board. Anyone had experience running theses in a RAID 0 setup ? RAID 0 is for performace right ? Running 2 in RAID will give me 73.4GB of space right ? (36.7Gb x 2) I am going to see a nice performace increase right ![]() Thanks

Good choice raptors are real good as far as scsi,
I personally dont have them runnin but i have read very good reviews about em being run in a raid 0 setup, Yes its for performance, Yes it'll read the drives as one drive, And the performance increase would vary pending on your other system components. Hope this helped

I've never run a RAID setup, but I think the answer to all your other questions is: yes.
![]() EDIT: just saw that wildchild replied before me, lol

I have several Raid 0 setups. I also have a Raid 5 setup as well. Its a yes to all your questions. except for one SATA is nice but its no
SCSI Don't let any one tell you that. Yes its very nice especialy since I work on a CAD station makes the job that much easier because load time are ten times better, downside is that I lost me numerous coffee breaks.

The only problem you could ever face is ... having one hardrive fail...... or trying to upgrade for more hd space..... if you have such as a 30gb and a 40gb... and raid 0..... or raid 1...... the 10GB on the 40gb will be made useless as they have to be EXACTLY the same size..... (which sucks)....

I just purchased 2 120gig 7200 Maxtor diamondback Serial ATA hard drives and I have them on Raid. They are hella fast. I have no regrets about spending damn near $500 dollars for them. Thats how good they run. The only drawback for me is my Raid driver is coded SCSI and PCmark01 will not run SCSI for the HDD bench. I'm sure I could pull off 1st in the fastest rig competition with a complete score. But It's a small price to pay for this kinda speed and stability. I installed XP in 8.5 min. today.
