HELP! service pack 1 wxp wont install

hey just set up my bros new rig and everything is working smoothly... athlonC 1.4, 512mb DDR, sis mobo

the only problem is as soon as i try to install sp1 (both the admin version and express version) the system hangs when its "estimating space for uninstallation". im not sure why. i have a valid cdkey it verifies ok, its just after that, the mouse stops moving and everything is literally just stopped although i still hear that 'working' sound for a bit but nothing happens and soon it starts smelling a lil burnt.

i have a lot of fans and my temps are well in the low 40s and i dont know whats wrong but i cant NOT install sp1.... HELP!!! plz any help appreciated...

Fala =-) Are u getting probs only with sp1? Did u tried other programs to install like games, office and stuff? U said u have the valid cdkey... this means you are not using that FCK one right? Check if the ides drivers are ok and the ram either

ive installed tons of other stuff, office, icq etc everything is fine its just sp1

and yeah i have a legit key and my ram is new! que saco!!!

Sound like you need freash formated

try that then installed games afterword

Definitely would probably go with a reinstall of Windows, sounds like a problem there somehow. Make sure and install SP1 and WindowsUpdates BEFORE you install anything else. Only install your network driver if you need to.

my suggestion would be to make a slipstream cd with sp1 intergrated thats what I did and it makes complete new formats alot faster

well i tried again without making bckups and it just worked but now when i try to install officexp it freezes. this seems to happen whenever i install microsoft stuff.... :|
