Need HELP!!

I have an old system running Windows 98, that was being used as the main system for a small business and for accounting. For the accounting software they were using QuickBooks Pro 99 and doing backups on ZIP disk's. I built them a new system with Windows XP Pro and I need to get the data off of the old system "pay roll" and having a hell of a time doing it. Problem is that they cant find the original CD's/floppy's for QuickBooks 99, they found the box, book and manual.......no install program!!

PII 400
64MB ram
4Gb hard drive "full"
Windows 98 "first edition"

I am going through and getting off all un needed programs to give me some breathing room. I need some opinions on what would be the best way to go about getting all this very important data and programs that have information that can't be lost. I have all the backups, but haven't thought of a way to transfer the programs themselves. Intuit no longer supports Version's 99 and below, so they were not able to help us.

Any ideas?? I know this is most likely simple.....but I just can't seem to think straight on this one.

Are they going to be updating to a new accounting system? Don't know much about QBooks but most programs will let you export the data in one of a number of formats, just export to a format that their new program supports and re-import.

I would test if first though because sometime's non-standard data doesn't get imported properly...

Best I can think of at the mo...sorry!!

.... i think newer version of there programs actually do have conversion tools for older backups....

Do you know of a newer version that they might be able to afford?

As for transfering... i doubt anything will work because those kind of programs really intergrate themself into the system....

WyreTheWolf, came up with a way to do it early this morning. It is just going to take a while to do with this old system. Basically I am going to make a Ghost image of the old drive, put the ghost image onto a new drive while installed into the old system. Then take the new Ghost imaged drive uninstall the varios specific drivers, and clear out everything in the Device manager. Install the new drive into the new computer and let Win 98 reconfigure it's self onto the new motherboard. Then install the new driver's that are motherboard specific. Then once everything is straightened out I can do an update install of Win XP and get all of the updates needed for it. Then they can make decent backups of there software and update Qbooks to the latest to the latest version when they are able to without the loss of data.

And of course this still leaves me with the original HD plus a ghost image of it. I was considering doing something along this line, but wasn't sure if Win 98 would be able to make the conversion over to a new motherboard that is so much more advanced then the old one. It is a long way to go for something that should be so easy. But Qbooks was losing data when it was being backed up, 2 years worth, which wasn't good, and with Intuit no longer supporting the older version, it made it pretty hard to get a back up cd of the software anyway. As expected there only answer was to buy a newer copy and do an update. But the older system just couldn't handle the huge update.

SO anyway, it is going to take me most of the day to get this done, "really slow computer", but I will let you know how it turns out.
