Iomega is going to be releasing a new Zip Drive soon. I will be a USB 2.0 drive and up the size of the disc to 750 Megs, like it is really gonna help
It will probably cost more than I CD-RW drive and I bet that one zip cartridge will cost more than a whole spindle of CDRs ![]() Alister |

Thats fine, i assume were talking about a disk that doesn't need to be "burned" every time you wanna write to it.
Also, i know iomega released a CD-RW under there brand name a while back, so be wary.

I will forever hear click-click-click-click in my head when I hear the name Iomega. I had one of the drives the Click-of-Death affected.
I don't see how Iomega thinks this'll make them much money. CD-RW Drives are close to ubiquitous, and produce media that is capable of being read in almost every single computer on the face of the earth. I just don't see a point in going with anything else... |

I think that the new drives are about useless myself also. Not everyone will have an Iomega drive capable of reading the discs, but almost everyone has a CD-Rom (DVD-Rom) and can read CDRs. I hear that the new drives are noisey also. They are calling it the Zip Ultra currently, the name may change once it is released. I hear that it will be able to read the 100 meg discs but not write to them. I am not sure about the 250 meg discs.

The only way I can see alternate data-storage technologies being popular is if a) they hold significantly more than a CD can, and b) if consumer needs for data storage increases.
Yamaha recently stated that they found most people only burn ~350MB of data to the average CD. So why would anyone ditch CD-Rs for something that costs more, can be read by fewer computers, and is too large for their needs anyway? |
