2 very nice choices indeed! Both are the top dogs right now. While the 5900 256MB version is slightly the faster card, the 9800 has proven to be right with it. What I prefer is how sweet the IQ is on the ATI cards versus the Nvidia. Another thing is the drivers currently, ATI has been cranking them out at a very quick rate(every 6 weeks or so) and they are very dedicated to put out the best. Which IMO they are doing a fine job of. While Nvidia is lagging behind and instead of releasing WHQL certified, tried and true drivers they are releasing Betas here and there. I hope Nvidia does get back in the game and make some competition for ATI as it benefits all of us. But at the moment ATI is the only way to go IMO!

pesonally after switching from nvaidia to ati last month i would go for the 9800pro/np mainly down to i havnt been happy with nvidia drivers for some time.

my 9600pro is the first ati card i've had and the support is great for a mid range card (drivers that is)so if the reputation for mine follows through to the high end ati would be my choice.

especially going from gfti4600 & tried a fx5600.

Budget: Either a 9800non-pro or 5900
My System: P4 1.4GHz, 768MB RDRAM

Why R9800 performs much better in FSAA + AF mode compared with FX5900?

The saphire r9800np is a great choice because it comes with the same fast samsung ram as the pro cards come with. The cores on these cards have no problem at running 400+MHz. They seem to basicly pro cards with slower bios preset clocks.

My personal Preference is ATi but both are very nice cards and the Nvidia one has shown itself to be slightly faster on a few more benchmarks then the ATi one, but there both VERY nice gaming cards, so nice in fact that they probably outclass the CPU you got, so you might consider another upgrade there eventually, even if its only to there celeron line you might still be able to pull some better FPS out of your rig

Looking at the rest of your system setup I would recommend a mid-range card rather than either high-end card, your money would be better spent upgrading that CPU which will make more of a difference. Remember the fastest graphics card in the world will only speed up your graphics, a faster CPU will speed up everything. It may well be a complete watse of money because your current CPU will not be able to supply information quickly enough to your swanky new gfx card and all that potential will be lost!

I agree with the post above . You would be better with like a 9600 pro to match your system. 1.4ghz p4 is a mid end cpu . Unless you considering updating your cpu/mobo/ram shortly aswell I wouldnt look at the top end gfx right now. What I would truly reccommend is to wait till mid sept or so when the new line of ati cards come out so prices will drop.( preale not whats what the rumors are of when the will be released.)

Yeah but if He buys either one of those cards he can carry it over to his next computer, like if he is waiting for the next generation of Processors either Athlon64 or The next Pentium but he may need a new graphics card now, it sounds like he has a good system since he is using RDRAM which means he spent an arm and a leg for it before so he might just be waiting
