CRC ERROR or I/O ERROR WHEN INSTALLING GAMES
hey whoever is reading..recently i was pursuaded to upgrade my computer. eventually i gave in and did so. heres the config:
MSI K7n2-Delta w/ athlon xp2600+ 2x corsair XMS 3200 512 running in dual channel (stickers say 3200v1.2 and 3200v2.2) SLK-800a with a vantec tornado...so cooling shouldnt be a problem. pny tech gf4 ti4600, sb audigy 2 platinum 2x WD 120GB 7200rpm hdd, one 8mb cache one 2mb cache 2x WD 200GB 7200rpm hdd, 8mb cache promise tech. ultra ata controller card round IDE cables plextor PX-W4824A, sony DVD-ROM DDU1621 motherboard has bios update to v5.4, newest on MSI website for K7n2-Delta error messages as follows: CRC Error when installing BF1942 and C&C Generals (EA Games) The cabinet file 'file' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package. An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file. these two errors occur only when installing games, my programs/utilities (sysworks2k3, kazaa, winamp). i also have installed win2k pro 7 times (reformatting each time) and now am trying winxp pro (3 times with reformats) these are brand new IDE cables. anyone have any ideas? ive tried downloading the files multiple times (bf1942 demo) and it still cannot install. someone heeeelp mee!! thanks

Are these games proper store bought copies? If so are they free from scratches and smears?
The reason i ask is that the only time i can remember getting that is with CD's i've burned myself that went wrong or were dirty. Stu |

Yes, they are all either store bought or downloaded demos from EA Games. counter-strike, generals, and bf1942 are all store bought, and the bf1942 demo was downloaded. the CDs are also free of scracthes..the weird thing is that the games will install on my laptop, just not this computer

It sucks, but it's time you started to consider that perhaps you have a bad optical drive(s).
You may also want to run a few loops of memtest86 |

"an I/O error"...try to disable antivirus program during the installation of the game(s),
"CRC ERROR"...do you use any 3rd party firewall software program? if yes, disable it and use win XP inbuilt ones during re-d/ling the game(s).. and then try again! edit.. add info Last edited by Net; Sep 2, 2003 at 07:53 PM. |

I get a very similar thing sometimes but its always with CAB files, get an error message saying possibly corrupt CAB file make sure its there and you can access it - when I check it is there and I can open it using winRAR but it will not install using the installer I haven't found a solution yet...
