Help with swapping HDD's
I'm running a 120gb and an 80gb HD
I'm running my 120 as the master and the 80 as the slave, But I was thinking about switching them around. My 80gb Is a WD 7200RPM with the 8mb buffer. And the 120gb is just a 5400rpm with a 2mb buffer I've been using the 80gb for storage of music, videos, just junk But if I format my 80gb and set it for the master, is there someway I can just do a complete transfer of everything on my 120gb? So that I don't have to reinstall everything! Like windows and my games, hell I like the way I have everything set right now. Don't want to have to set windows up all over again this soon lol. But I would also like the little bit of extra performance the WD HDD will give me.

There is absolutely a way to do this. Use either Norton Ghost or PQDI's DriveImage. Both programs can do HDD imaging -- which will do exactly what you want it to do.

The utilities from the drive makers sites can generally do this as well
Don't know what WD call theirs, but I just transferred several partitions from a 20Gb (Fujitsu) to an 80 Gb Maxtor using Maxtor's "Max-blast". Each one had to be transferred separately (why did I make so many!). This was FAT32 formatted Win98SE, and after transfer, booted and ran as normal - not even any need to SYS it. |
