A heatsink that can challenge the SLK900?
Looking at the newest Swiftech heatsink I think there might just be a new contender for the ultimate air cooling crown. While there is no comparison between the two just yet, it does extremely well against its older brother. Check it out
http://www.systemcooling.com/modules...ticle&sid=1205 http://www.swiftnets.com/ Hope someone puts these head to head soon

I won't be changing out my 900 anytime soon... I can't complain about 98F temps on my XP2500+ OCed to XP3200+....... and that is under full load.....

Swiftech has been a favorite of mine for a few years. Had my MCX4000, on my P4. Ran at 19c idle and about 25-29c full load with a Thermaltake smartfan at 50%.
Yeah, they do weigh a lot, that's the price you pay for the half inch thick copper block.

with a name like MCX462-V, it's gotta be good, right??
btw, why such a thick block, wouldn't a thinner one be better?

With working with copper for 10 years the one thing I learned is the thicker the better it seems to pull heat. Thinner will heat up to fast and not be able to be cooled off as well.

Ah, I thought thinner would be better, because it would be a shorter distance to move the heat to the fins, to be removed

Yeah, it looks good, I think it's next on my shopping list (for comps that is...).
Excluding new scanner, and new Z-640 5.1 speakers.

It's not a thinner copper block because, it dosen't have fins. It has Aluminum screws, of sorts. They go into the copper about 3/4 of the copper. That's their secret to extreme performance. The copper sucks the heat off and has lots of contact to the aluminum for heat transfer up to the fan area.

I agree.
I do however, like the way Swiftech's stuff looks. They do a very fine, shiney finish to everything.

You think that challenges the SLK? Get out of here.... This heatsink is at least close to the temp of a SLK900......

Now that thing is obserd, and most certainly uglier than the Swiftech.

Who cares what it looks like...... Do you like your computer cuz of it's asthetically appealing look? Hell, I don't. I'd buy the ugliest components if I knew they'd perform well.

Yep, I have a childs toy in my computer just because it happens to hold a fan at the exact right level I need it to be to blow accross my radeon. I'm looking at my screen, not the computer.

Agreed. I don't think less of people that put all these lights and crap in there... Too me it's just wasted money I could use on beer and bitches.
