Need Burner Help ASAP!!

hi everyone, i have a big BIG problem and need a solution asap! i cannot get my cd burner to work! it was just a week ago, now it just wont work!! i have tried nero, roxio, alcohol, and none of them will burn! i get a speed error with nero.. now i was thinking maybe if i could delete all files to do with making cds, inf files and what not, it might work? any one have any info, please let me know! thanks a ton!

slow the burn speed to the slowest.... what CD's are you using.... (sounds like a buffer underrun of sorts...)

hi, well, i have, ive put it down to 2x, they are durabrand.. wal-mart stuff, but, that doesnt matter because it was working, and has been working, now its not...

.... what version of windows are you using?... have you check device manager or System Information to see if there are any sudden conflicts/hardware problems?..... BTW, have you installed anything JUST RECENTLY?

What mobo are you running, and what system drivers do you have installed, do you have all latest Windows Updates?

umm, first off, no, i havent oced anything, second, i am running an abit kr7a mobo, and as far as installing anything recently..on the top of my head, a few games, new omega drivers for my 9800.. and maybe a couple of utils.. think the omega drivers could do it? i think thats the last thing i remeber installing before this happend.. could be wrong though.. any thoughts, keep em coming my friends!

If you have a friend who can help you out see if you can't try it in his machine, to me it sounds like it might be a dead drive since it just happened all of a sudden with no major changes to your system, and the easiest way to do this is to try it in another system

i think i formatted and reinstalled xp.. im pretty sure this is some driver thing.. or something..not something wrong with my burner it self..

try uinstalling the burner in harware mang. then try replacing the ide cable. i have seen them have intermittent problems before.

Hmm, I had a similar problem awhile back. I uninstalled Clone Cd and it took away access to all my cd-roms. It corrupted windows registry during the uninstall. If you've uninstalled any burning software in the last week this fix may help.

hmm, i tried that.. still nothing, but you know, it may be nero's problem, i was using 5.x then i installed 6, and it started acting strange, then i installed a newer version of 6, and now it doesnt work at all... think its a possiblity?

It's quite possible something hosed your Nero 6 install. An incompatability with another burning program most likely. I know you cannot have Nero's InCD installed and install another packet writer like Roxio Ez 5's Direct Cd now called Drag to Disk in Ez 6. Perhaps you can find your answer in either Nero's Faq's in the help section or in Roxio's support Disscussion groups pages.Might have to log in to access those pages. This assuming your prog's are legal and not cracked copies

Trying to upgrade from those is a whole other issue and I can't help you there.

thanks for that link.. it helped me out in a few things..

As for the CD burning software.... yes, multiple different types of CD Writing software will really kill a burn to cd quick.... Check your startup files and see what starts up.... there usually isn't anything that's nessary... try disabling everything and trying... (this will usually insure that there isn't to much HD activity and maxium ammount of memory available for the CD-RW to use to burn to disk...

Ok guys here is what i did, i had uninstalled nero, then i re-installed it, then uninstalled it again, and now Alcohol 120% just made a cd.. thats all i did, well, that and delete a reg key for nerocheck in startup.. any thoughts on this other than nero seems to be buggy here?

Make sure your drive is defragged as well. I've had some odd things happen because of this.

yeah, a good defragged system is a good thing to have, but as far as this goes.. it would seem to be nero screwing crap up, im just wondering what it is that it messes up now

ok, i am getting close to a solution! the problem here appears to some registry key that my reg cleaner is getting rid of once i uninstalled nero... bescause i ran it, and then it didnt work again, then i restored the keys, and it worked.. so i dont know which it would be, they all just point to nero in C:\program files\ nero folder... i dont know, im stumped

uninstall the Nero6 and all other CD burning softwares,
and pls go to this site http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and d/l a VBS file called "RegSrch.vbs" (Search Registry for input string and display results), searching for 3 keywords.. "nero" ,"ahead" and "nerocheck". show me the results and i'll make a REG file to delete those registry keys for you. also stop by the Drive's web site and see if you can get a new firmwere for it.

after uninstalling the Nero, reboot your machine and then use the "RegSrch.vbs" to search all the 3.. nero, nerocheck, and ahead.
pls copy the results in a text flie and send it to me, if you said it was somes like 500 entries.

okay i checked the file...

1) make a copy of that file you sent me and named it is ... undo_nero.txt

2) open the "undo_nero.txt", and remove these 2 items...

"ReadAheadPages"=dword:00000008

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engi nes\Jet 2.x]

3) you'll make a .REG file to remove the rest registry keys by...
adding " - " (minus) in front of the "HKEY" on each and every keys
like this...

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\n ero.exe]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\n ero.exe\shell\open\command]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{083863F 1-70DE-11d0-BD40-00A0C911CE86}\Instance\{138130AF-A79B-45D5-B4AA-87697457BA87}]
"FriendlyName"="Nero Digital Audio Decoder"

then save it as a .REG file (eg. undo_nero.reg) and merge/import it into windows registry... pls do it on both files you sent me. and REBOOT. man that's may be 200-300 registry keys.

also search you C: drive for files/folders named.. Nero, Ahead, and Nerocheck.exe and anything about nero in dir... Programs, Programs\Common, Windows. and remove it.... also remove the alcohol and all other... reboot. and then try Nero 5. (or 5.5 but i would say nero5 may work this time on your drive)

ok... i try to install nero 5.5 and.. i get an error, it says to reboot, i do, and still, the error everytrime... what is nero's freaking deal!
