networking and VPN ... help!
OK here in Israel all of the ISPs are going over to a VPN way of connecting to them and the net
If I had only one pc no problem but I have two pc's that both my wife and I surf on simultaneously. I have a BEFSR41 linksys router and two pc's running winXP. I am a total networking idiot and hope, really hope someone here knows how to set this up properly...At this point I can set up a VPN connection on both pc's under network connections. I can punch through the router and connect with either pc no problem. But if pc #1 is connected and pc#2 wants to connect we can't because UN and PW are already in use. In my router I have a way to set up a PPTP connection but I have 2 questions on that: 1. it wants the WAN address.... is that the ISP domain name?? as my personal WAN changes each time I reconnect 2. if I can get it setup that the router is connected, how can I set up the pc's to punch through into the single router connection? please tell me someone around this fine community can help a shuki out ....

1)wan address is probably asking for the address of the vpn server, so yes your isp.
2) Im not sure what you're asking, but the router should assign you both local addresses via dhcp and "route" all your connections through the vpn. |

well in my network connections I have to set up a VPN connection there. I have the addy for "host name or IP address of destination" entered. Under security it uses the advanced tab and sets data encryption to optional encryption with only "allow these protocols" checked and one option there "unencryped PW (PAP). Networking type of VPN is automatic. Those are the settings for my VPN connection.
now I can punch through my router no problem. problem is I have 2 pc's.... if pc#1 is logged on to the VPN then when I try and conect with pc#2 it won't allow it. User name already in use on the network.... I really, really do not want to set up ICS (internect connection sharing). What I want to do if at all possible is to set up my router to connect via VPN!! Is that at all possible? In my router options I have a PPTP connect type. It asks for WAN, subnet and default gateway. I tried connecting and then pulling my ipconfig /all but the info changes each time I connect. Called ISP but they said we don't offer router support if you want two pc's on the network at once open another account!!! suuuuuure. Can anyone tell me how I need to set up the linksys with PPTP and then how to set up my pc to connect to an already connected router??? make sense? ugh. |
