New rig ! Maybe
I have now decided to purchase a new computer. The ones i would really like are way to pricey, but i have managed to configure one with alienware and with the consent of my bank manager, Mr Kinetic, i may just go for this one.
I video card has the recommended one which is the GF5900, but i have the option to have the Radeon 9800 pro as well. I have decided to go for a raid array 0 configuration, but would like to know if its possible to install a further HD in a none raid array setup, just for backing up the the raid array.? Hope that one makes sense This is it so far: The monitor i do not need. ![]() Any observations on the above would be highly appreciated before i take the plunge thanks |

adding in a 3rd hardrive will work great... stripe the 2 in raid 0.... and a +1 for the HD (has to be fairly large.... (i'm not sure, but i think the complete size of what the 2 in raid 0 would be put together).....

You could probably save 1000 dollars if you build it yourself.

I have had two AMD rigs and this present one is an intel, for now i am gonna stick with intel, but as high as i can go. The specs do not seem all that bad boys, just wanna know if those above specs are good or bad. Seem good to me on paper, so thats why i asked. I prefer the Radeons so thats not a prob and i have the opportunity to change the card. Stil listening though, or i shall order this coming monday

Yes I'd recommend a 9800 over the 5900...
Those specs do indeed look good... Why do you want 1GB of memory though? And what does the 'o' stand for in Mo? I've often wondered ![]() Hmm why upgrade in the first place? Your current CPU/vid card are pretty fast. It seems like too much money for too little perfomance increase. Or is this to be an additional computer, not to replace your current one? Either way, Alienware is very expensive, no? I didn't see a price anywhere, though.

As to the memory, i am just trying to keep ahead of what the future throws at me. So hopefully i can be left in peace for a year or two. Now the "o" is a completely different ball game I have a few issues with my present set up, albeit on paper its looks good but it is really starting to p*** me off. The price tag is heavy, just say around $3000. But i spoil myself now and then Thanks for the input, much appreciated Vampyromaniac

Besides...Tragic can always sell off some of his current parts to help pay for the new computer. Heck, might have plans for them as well.
