Memory speed, is it right?

Hope this is the right forum, if not.. please do what you need to

Was looking at a thread (Mitchelson's, It started) and saw a *for me* new info tool: Aida32
very nice and loads way faster than S.Sandra, it also had a b.mark for memory.
Here I noticed I was very high in the ranks, considering what was behind me:

which made me wonder if this benchmark is "very" kind to the user ??,
or is this oldy still doing well
so if some of you with a simular rig could check it out on yours ?? thanks in advance
my system:
MoBo = Shuttle AK32a Via drivers: 449
PSU = Q-tec 550 watt
mem = 2x 256mb_cl2.5 cmd1 Hyund. DDR266mhz
Cpu = Amd Athlon 1600xp+
HD = WD- 800JB 80Gb - Seagate Barracuda ATA-IV 80Gb
Vid = Ati9700 driver: Cat 3.7
OS = W2000 sp4 DX9b
Sound = Hercules FortissimoIII 7.1

Look inm the plugins int the tool bar and you'll find some more goodies.
Well given your competing again DDR266 (PC2100) I cannot see the problem, if you slightly overclocking the FSB you will see this in the benchmark

Also post the comment in AIDA forum (MBM is there as well) and try out the preview versions as well.

It is a much bettter tool than Sandra

Nice guy and quick response in his forum too.

I;ve been using it for a while now.

Yes lovely piece of freeware.
well i do not have a problem, it is just that I can't beliefe my rig's memory is
quicker than a NF2 with an 2200xp, or the Epox 8kha+ with an 2000xp
edit: no nothing is overclocked on mine

Well there systems can only be as fast as the memory will go. Chances are they just have slower memory...

Run it a few time see what you get.

Now i;m not goin to tell you what my PC133 memory is in my AthlonXP and PIII-m's Way way slower..
Mind only in the memory and they do everything they where bought/made for perfectly although the coffee's still poor

Now get your drives benchmarked ! (in Plugin)
Use the Quick linear. All drives will shoe up in the same graph as well

Hmm your memory does seem pretty high for your system (maybe you're lucky), I get only about ~1700 or so, mine is somewhat similar to yours:
MoBo = ECS K7S5A (SiS735 chipset)
PSU = Antec 400W
mem = 2x 256mb_cl2.5 Crucial DDR266mhz
Cpu = Amd Athlon 1800xp+
HD = WD- 800BB (2MB cache) 80Gb - IBM 120GXP 80GB
Vid = Ati9700pro driver: Cat 3.5
OS = W2000 sp2 DX9b
Sound = M-Audio Revolution 7.1

And my disk results for the WD 800bb:

And the access time:

Yeah, although your Hdd performance is better strange while I have the 8mb cache version, and why are you still on w2k SP2 ? get sp4 !, maybe that will get your memspeed up

whoa... i blow both of you outa the water.... i get on buffered read speed as straight lines 95MB... on quick Linear speed... i get aprox 80mb straight lines.. doesn't even bop at the end... just straigh across.... and random....i get 60-70mb.... and doesn't go down at the end..... my CPU usage is lower as well!... wow.... i only have 2mb cache on my drives (2x30GB IDE raid 0 using Standard IDE at the moment through my Highpoint tech. 374 controller which is built into my mobo)... my SATA speeds are even higher....

BTW, your memory is makinga killing... your running great... Currently, i'm running 1x512mb of pc2700 cas 3... (all the lowest speed settings for 2x166mhz)... I'm planning sometime to crank up the timings... (currently pushing 2300mb/s)

Interesting isn't it? My guess is it's due to the chipset.
I don't want the garbage that comes with later SP's, and I'm not concerned with my memspeed atm. I know it's slow, but it's fast enough for now.

Yeah Judas, I asked for a simular system, can hardly call a 1600xp sim. to a barton 2500.
nor pc2100 266 vs 2700-333
@ Vampyromaniac : true must be the chipset.
I found that all Shuttle boards have a very speedy memory, if it weren't for their lousy bios updates it would prob. be much more popular, cause they're cheap and very reliable,
just don't use their onboard raid...

Also, note that CPU usage is higher on Hawk's rig (except for random read). Could it be a tweaking issue - like EnableUDMA66 not set?

No, I don't it's that, as HawK does Buffered at almost 85 MB/s . . . I think it's a combination of slower CPU, and different chipset. (My chipset is 1 chip integrated, not separate north & south bridge; maybe less latency?) But I'm just speculating

Yes, I'm i need of a faster CPU, but this mobo has a max of an AMD-2400xp, which costs about 100 euro, find that to much for so little gain, so i'll just have to wait for a complete new set: Mobo, Mem. & CPU.

Yes, that's what I would suggest (and what I was considering for a while . . . )

I get 2242MB/s in the mem read test.
1800xp Pal. @1680,,,,,,, Crucial 256mb pc2100 & PNY 512mb pc2700 @ 290mhz 2.5-3-3-7 (dual mode),,,,,,Abit NF7

I would get about 2020MB/s to 2050MB/s without being in dual mode.
