A question about the GF4 ti4200 and the GF4 ti4200 SE
Alright so I RMAed my GF4 Ti4200 128MB graphics card to visionTEK ( www.visiontek.com )
I call them up and they say its shipping out by last friday. Product isn't here yet so I called them again today and they tell me it is out of stock....BUT that they can give me a geforce4 ti4200 SE. I told them no, as the ti4200 they wanted to send me was a 64MB card...not the 128MB I paid for. Anyways I was also told they have a 128MB version of the GF4 ti4200 SE...if memory serves me correctly isn't the "SE" brand of cards often the cheaper cards that perform at a lower level than the standard GF4 Ti4200? I can't seem to find any information about it other than on ebay the SE sells for 80 bucks and the standard for around 100. Any insights into the difference between GF4 Ti4200 SE and the standard GF4 Ti4200 would be greatly appreciated. |

I thought that the 'SE' in GF4, ment it ran in AGP 8x, instead of just 4x. But, I could be wrong.

GeForce 4 Ti4200 SE? I know that the GeForce 4 Ti4800 = GeForce 4 Ti4600-8x, and the GeForce 4 Ti4800SE = GeForce 4 Ti4400-8x...

I have no idea either, all I know is the guy said they could send me a ti4200 SE instead of the ti4200 I am clueless as to the difference as I can't find any information about a ti4200 SE. Let alone one released by VisionTEK.

Well, Chaintech has a GeForce 4 Ti4200 "SE" supposedly listed in their website listed as a GX21, but the only difference seems like a more aggressive cooling solution.

he's right, i think "se" stands for 8X....BUT if its only 64MB, then i really doubt it cause i seldom see a ti42008X card with only 64 MB of ram..

Thanks for the assistance, I appreciate it.
I will see if I they will still send me the SE variant at 128MB. As for visiontek tech support I asked them and the only information the guy would give me is that it had the same chipset but at 64MB he wouldn't tell me anything more than that. I said no as I had a 128MB card that I RMAed and I thought why the heck should I get a 64MB card when I RMAed them a 128? haha |

I bet your other card had an A3 core too- which is the same as the 4400 and 4600- I had one with the A# core and it was very fast. (320mhz)
I would tell them you want a 4400 at the least since you had one with an A3 core.

The only Ti4x00 chipset with the SE suffix is 4400 8x varient called 4800 SE as Bane the ECF
Ti4200 in 8xAGP is called 4200 w/ AGP 8X nothing else. So you cannot be sure what the SE means It could be Special Edition as in fancy heatsink etc. OR Special Edition as in Cut down need to get rid of them cards. But for the future stay away from Visiontek, if you see the way they have dumped support for NVIDIA product on their site, they could well do the same for ATI when they are not the best. you could try postin in http://forum.visiontek.com/default.asp or wrangling one of the newer ATI cards out of them

Well I found out the difference.
The SE and the standard are the same card only the SE does not have the DVI output. After calling them back all they could send me was a refurbished SE card...so I told them it looks like I am stuck waiting another 2 weeks for a replacement...wanting to send me a refurbished card...ridiculous. I sent in a card to get fixed they said the card was defective and they want to send me a refurbished card...ridiculous....I am never buying visionTEK products again. Thank's again for the help. |

I'd tell them you will spread the word about your experience if they don't make it right.. (don't tell them where)- but you could say you're a member of a site w/ over 40,000 members. It be fun to see what they do.

The biggest problem is that VisionTek doesn't make nVidia cards anymore if I'm not mistaken. Their website only has a line of ATi cards listed in them.

True, but their nvidia product lines carried a lifetime warranty that they are still honoring even after they were bought out.
As for telling them I am a member of a site etc. etc. no. I am not going to slander the name of a site I frequent several times a day just to advance my own situation. It is not like waiting a few weeks to get an actual replacement is going to kill me. |

I said NOT to say where example- never say the name of the site (here or anywhere else)- just that you would tell people your experience- I guess you already have anyway.
Anyone that reads this knows how they are treating you already- that's all I meant. I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping big companies honest using word of mouth, and letting the big company know you are doing it. What else can you do? I mean you bought a product with a lifetime warranty- they said they will honor that, and it sounds to me like they are giving you a hard time. Dude- "slander the name of a site"? Come on- I didn't say to do that. Just the opposite. I don't think there is anything wrong with what I suggested- I think you guys misunderstood me.
