OK you Opera Guru’s - Java vs. Non-Java Opera 7.2?
I have never downloaded Opera before. The way I read it, the Orepa web site says if you have not downloaded Opera before use the Java version of Opera 7.2. If I have WinXP service pack 1 as my operating system I would think that there would not be a need to download the big Java version as Java is already on my machine. Is that right?

Actually no, Java is not included with XP. 98 had it, but not XP. I'm not familiar with Opera to know anything about that browser though. I just use IE myself, I went to www.java.com and installed the java stuff from there, seems to work fine.
I'm sure someone here will give ya some help soon, be patient.

XP doesn't have Java, didn't come with it then it did then it didn't now it doesn't. If you have a early version of SP1 you may have Java. I don't as I'm using the slipstream XP install. The Java download is worth it and once you've gotten it you can upgrade with the non Java versions. Short answer though is yes you need to get the java version, cause even if you have Microsofts VM it's implementation of Java is J-script and NOT Java. Good luck and enjoy opera, I love it.

My OEM copy came with service pack 1 included, so I thought I had the Microsoft Java machine installed. Isn't SP1a the service pack that requires you to download Sun Java machine?
I'll check tonight to see if either is on my computer. Anyway it looks like I can load Sun Java and switch between the two if I got Microsoft Java isntalled as well.

Try MyIE2, much nicer than Opera in my opinion.

Sun Microsystems and Microsoft don't exactly have the best working relationship do they? I'm surprised Java even shipped with Windows 98
