Think brand is no problem, spec's does imo
I.E. you cannot put pc2700 and a pc3200 together, if that is what you mean, it won't work |

Actually I'm pretty sure it will work doesn't it Hawk? I thought it only ran at the slower of the two ram speeds

i know the differences in pc2700/pc3200 etc. mine is pc3200 volt of 2.7 for osz modules. i just mean both pc3200 cas 2.0. can you place in with no erors etc one that requires cas 2.0 and the other that requires cas 2.5. seeing as you can only select one or the other in the bios options. |

Well it happend to me once, I bought another 256mb stick to go with my pc2100, and they gave me an pc2700, it would not work sometimes it got as far as windows before it bluescreened, so brought them both back, thinking they would not work together and gave me another brand, but again one 2100 and one 2700
, figured it out when i was on my way to the store again, when I read the stickers.

2.0 is faster. i would not do this unless you are getting the ram for free.
i do not think mem slots are like ide slots where the sys runs at slowest speed. mem slots run at what you set them in the bios. if they can not run at bios settings then you have problems. are you overclocking? just wondering why you are running that mem at 2.7? also, if your other mem can not handle that v you are going to have problems. basically i think you are going to have problems. but if it is free, give it a shot 'cause it would be cool if you can make it work! i am sure you know this, but make sure you run some sort of mem bechmark before & after.

had to send pc in for repair and were told the ram were faulty so changed the ram hence cas 2.5. rang overclockers to get the rma number to send for return got through to one of there teck's. he advised me to up the volt to 2.7 thats what he told me it needs. so done so and it works i now have both in and they are running. i were just curious. and to add i thought the cas 2.0 were faster just not sure which way round. |

Send PC in for repair? What did they do that you couldn't? Anyway, you don't need to reinstall windows to upgrade memory, just use one stick if you need to install windows or something, then put the new ram in after. I am running 2 sticks of difffernt size memory, different brand memory, and different speed memory, In a DUAL channel configuration and it works perfect- I'm using 512mb PNY pc2700 in slot 1 and 256mb Crucial pc2100 in slot 3. both at 2.6v and 290 to 294mhz- it ran memtest86 all night long no errors (10 hours or so). 2.5-3-3-7 the PNY mem is actually slower than the crucial- the crucial runs at 2-2-2-7 no problem. So it can be done. I bench higher in all tests (250 more mb/s in Sisoft sandra) and pass memtest86, which I strongly recommend you get to test out your memory/configuration. memtest86 download Put it on a formatted floppy- you don't even need windows installed to use it- test your mem before you install windows. just set your bootdrive to your floppy in your bios. Read the readme too.

my old system has 266 ddr and that is the highest it will go to.but are not compatible with 800fsb p4's. hence no memory to boot up system with or to try out before hand which is why i had to take it in i were well & truly stuck. no os or net access to get some help from you lot at DH see the problem. but i have not found or noticed any problems at this time, and i have to say i have never before had a pc that ran as smooth as this one i have now,i am impressed. |

Oh, that makes sense- if it didn't boot at all- I'm not too familiar with P4 boards.
Well gad you got it working good! That's all that matters really.

if i put the "not so fast" one in the first slot, it will definitely drag a little bit of preformance right???
