Whenver I touch my case, I got a little shock!
I 've bought some cold cathodes fans and cold cathodes for my case. And a few weeks ago i just found out that my case are all static around, because whenver I touched it, it gave me a little shock. I dont know whta's goingon, is it cause I have too many stuff (cold cathodes) inside my comp? or something else? thx.

shouldn't be the case...but you sure this isn't possibly a bare wire touching the outside case..... and what do you mean by shock...is it more static shock... or a bigger one....?

it's just a little shock, it's like if Itouch it, it's like a vibrator but not much vibrate. I checked every wire, nothing wrong. I eventook out the cold cathodes andit still like that. Also, I have a fan controller from Vatec Nexus. Not sure if that causes the problem.

Hmm, what type of flooring do you have? Also, how humid is it?
(I'm serious about both questions, although they sound a little odd) |

My PSU gives me a huge shock if I touch its HSs, I'm not sure, but that might be related. Something might have fallen over in your PSU (Especially if you have a cheap one) and is now touching the side.

Is your PSU plugged into a properly grounded outlet?

I was about to ask about proper grounding, too. ![]() Are you positive that the surge protector is plugged into a properly grounded wall receptacle? Some older homes have only a two-prong outlet and no 3rd one for the ground prong. If you're using one of those adapters to allow you to plug in a 3-prong cord to a 2-prong outlet, it won't give you proper grounding unless you attach that little metal part to the outlet with a screw. Just be sure to check the grounding of that outlet all the way through. Home Depot (or your nearest hardware store) will have a very inexpensive tester for this that fits in the palm of your hand. |

.....Dyre.... even old homes with 3 prong plugins may not be grounded.. (switched so that 3 pronged aplliances would still fit.).... Jincuteguy, putting in those should not have done anything if you didn't do any wire splicing or some kind of rewireing of some sort..... The PSU looks good.... meants the requirements...doesn't look cheap.. (although can't say i've heard of the brand name before.....)

Worrying that it's described as "vibrating" - static shocks are always a single bolt (as is the potentially lethal DC bolt from the inside of a PSU).
Vibrating/buzzing type shocks are mains frequency, and if particularly noticed on a light contact with the case, tend to be from the leakage of suppression capacitors to a case with defective earthing. At the very least, use a socket tester, and also do an ohm-meter test from case metalwork to the plug earth. Don't ignore it! PS. If I forgot it in my "where", I'm in UK - 230-240v 50Hz mains, with 3 pin earthed plugs - all equipment should either be earthed or double insulated (eg. a single failure does not result in contact with live metalwork). You ought to put your country in your profile - if you said what electrical system you're on, I must have missed it! |

Exactly why I suggested using a small tester on the receptacle. |

Me thinks it is some leaking current, if it is static building up, it would not shock him every time but only after a build up of static. try touching it a few times after each other, say once every 1min. in a 5 min. period..

As for the build of static...yeah, Hawk has the idea there... one way of cheaply testing that.... Carpet though is not a good ground to transfer through you to the gound....... so this is what is sorta weirding me out a bit....
