Need almost expert opinion...
Not being a believer in Watercooling, and not quite ready for a
Phase Change kit, I was thinking of putting this 60mm to 80mm adaptor and fan on my CPU (Athlon XP 2800+ Barton). The fan puts out nearly 85 CFM. That's about like a 1500 hairdryer on High. I have a Tornado F5 VPU/GPU cooler which puts out 100 CFM and it blows more air than a 24" box fan. Loud? Yes. Cools like Antartica? Again, yes. Noise doesn't concern me. In fact I kinda like it. My only question is, will this adaptor and fan be too heavy for my CPU and Heatsink, and perhaps over time, cause my CPU die to crack from the weight? Sunon Specs: * * 80x80x25mm * 4-pin PSU connector * Speed: 5700rpm * Airflow: 84.12CFM * Noise: 55.2dBA * Voltage: 12V * Input Current: 0.76A

If your CPU cracks, it won't be over time. It'll happen there and then.

By the way, don't dismiss watercooling. Just yesterday, I bought and installed the Koolance Exos watercooling kit. My temperature at idle for a 2.4GHz overclocked to 2.8GHz is 27-28 degrees Celcius. Under load, the overclocked 2.8GHz goes up to 33 degrees Celcius. Best of all, I'm using the slowest radiator fan speed setting (which is 1) and it's very quiet. Done correctly, I believe watercooling is very effective and safe. For phase change setup, you gotta worry about condensation and your components getting splashed. Also, it's still darn pretty expensive. |
