Found an interesting read 8.5g dvd +r's

No doubt it will require new burners rather than firmware updates

sweet..... i don't have a DVD writer yet....... but it's some good news..... i'm actually waiting for the bigger better HD-DVD's witch 20+gb of storage... and the ability to playpack using the extreme high res format...

don't worry about what you have now...and if you were to wait a little longer....... the dual layer thing is gonna last maybe a year then the move to HD-DVD will move in.....

hehheh I hear ya Logla, I bought my Memorex Duel X-1 at the end of August, 10 days later the price dropped 60$. Now this report, timing is everything lol. Doesn't matter too much atleast I'll get a year outta this one, then I can put it in my daughter's rig.
Judas are you talking about the new blue lazer burners? I've read a bit about those.
30g per disk I believe . They are out in Japan now going price is around 2K I think, 15$ per disk if you can find'em. I'm thinking it will be about 2 years before those drop down to a price I can afford. From what I've been reading, I think they should be able to apply the 2 layer proccess to those disks as well. Imagine 60g disks

When I first heard about DVD (Jan 1998), they were promising 17 GB on dual-layer double-sided DVDs... the stuff is coming out

...actually, yes... you may be able to see the layers.... translucency is in the first i think.... but.... the media actually has a double set of rainbow effects... compared to the standard dvd single layer....
