Is my athlon 2200+ running properly?
I told someone that my athlon 2200 is running at 1.3ghz and he told me that couldnt possibly be true..but the fact is it really is running at 1.3ghz. Is this normal? or should it be running a lot faster?

No, that's not normal. Make sure your FSB/CPU internal speed... is set to 133MHz, not 100... in the BIOS

mm...i took a look...in the bios and the only thing that i saw that resembles what you told me to change was:
CPU Frequency Multiple [13.5x] and CPU/PCI Frequency (Mhz) [100/33] |

hmm... you may be in the need of a bios update.. i've had nurmerous ASUS motherboard suddenly spit out a reset CPU speed or memory speed on me... usually there latest update fixes this... annoying... but strange that you can't access the bios....

BE WARNED.... you must follow the directions VERY CLOSELY.... if you do not... you may end up with a DEAD computer (motherboard)....
Do it at your own risk.. (although in the ENTIRE time i have ever used a computer and bios updated it.. i've never had a bios update fail)

judas is right...
but that being said, you CAN get a new bios chip or reflash it on a friends board...and theres almost never a bad flash on mobos if you're using the right BIOS(like not trying to flash a hacked bios on)

sorry for rebumping this thread up for the third time. I am having the same problem with my amd 2200+ running at 1.3ghz. Its only this time my bios settings all seem to be right. Last night there was a power outage and my computer was on. When my power came back my computer was running at 1.3ghz (used to run at 1.8) and I checked my bios settings and it was all perfectly fine. Usually when I had this problem I would switch the CPU/PCI Frequency (Mhz) [100/33] in my bios to 133/33 and then it wouldrun at 1.8ghz but that doesnt seem to be the problem this time.

The BIOS might have gotten a slight bump in the head by the outage, so try the "load setup defaults" in the BIOS and then make sure its set to 133. If that doesn't help, try using the "clear CMOS" jumper on the motheboard (see manual) to clear the BIOS settings and then load defaults and set FSB to 133MHz again. Should fix it.

ok thank you I will try what you said.
Just a few quick questions: If I load the setup defaults what should be set at 133? the CPU/PCI Frequency ? |
