My barton VS. tbred testing
I finally got my new mobo, and I did testing with my barton @2450/222 MHz fsb. I got about 1000 more points in 3dmark 03 than with my tbred @ 2501/ 227MHz FSB. I think these are the overclock limits of both of these chips, I might be able to take the barton 1 FSB higher, it didn't work at 225, so I dropped it to 222, but this is close to the limit.
I should have done more tests with my tbred, but my results definatly conflict with Shuki's results. I can now whole heartedly reccomend a barton 2500+ to anyone wondering to get a tbred or a barton, or a higher speed one. I got the same overclocks as people with 2500+s, but this is with a 3000+. (I'm not at all disapointed kakarot) |

For the info,
Barton at 222MHz (should be 2442MHz) is a 3800+ T-Bred at 227MHz (should be 2497MHz) is a 3300+ Not bad btw

I checked the speeds with Wcpuid. The FSB usually is never exactly 222 mhz, mine is acctually 222.73, so when that .73MHz is added in, it will slightly increase the clock.

I know
![]() The 'should be' is just for information for the XPxxxx+ rating. Barton @223 (2453Mhz) is still 3800+ get it to 226Mhz (2486MHz) bus and you'll 3900+ just.. but doesn't look like you'll get there. Either way from a 2500+ to a 3800+ for the cost of these CPU's is err a bargain ![]() mind you could always try 220x11.5 (4000+)

Hey, thats pretty good Craig, I'm glad you figured things out. I also got the same results while benching my old tbred against a slower barton...they are definitely the way to go. I had gone through three bartons myself and they all died out at about 2.45GHz; I'm starting to think that's the limit for most(without crazy voltages atleast). Glad you got a good OC bud

I'm happy for ya craig, enjoy it.
You mind running SiSoftware Sandra CPU Benchmark and tell me what you got for MFLOPS and MIPS ? thanks

I got identical scores in sandra with my tbred and barton. (acctually the batron was little bit slower, but thats probably attributed to the slight clock drop)

Yeah the Sandra benchmark take no account of the cache and is really not a very good benchmark at all for comparing CPU speeds. Also given most optimizations are aimed at the P4 and not turned on for AMD or AMD64!
Run some application benchmarks or benchmarks in games you actually play. Have you tried with more relaxed latancy timings?

why would I want to? 2-2-2-11 is the best settings for a AXP chip.

just to see if you can get slightly higher MHz.
For the fun and curiosity

ah but that's not the challenge (and it may not be). Once you have it you can always go back.
Something for a rainy day (now your going to say it very rarely rains near you )

oh, you want me to get temporary speeds just for benching? I hate doing that, I only bench at my perfectly stable stettings.
Prime95 overnight, with CPU burn to pick up the slack. This chip is the limiting factor, because I know the ram works at at least 227MHz completely stable, and I know the mobo can do the same. |

Not for benchmark I don't particularly liek benchmark, but more to see the big fat 4000+ See if you can squeeze a little more out of the old CPU.
Either way I would be damn pleased with what you've got already :-). Have you tried the Nvidia Util thingamy bob for the mobo ? I've not got a nForce to try it with.
