Hello

I have a Prob with my comp....

It runs TOOO SLOW!!!

I Bought a pentium 4 to get a little better perfomance then my old 400Mhz celeron.
But i can't say i'm stunned over the difference =?)
I have a friend with a 1.8 ghz comp that is A LOT faster then my 2.4ghz...i don't understand....i've tried with the newest drivers and allmost everything...but i just goes down...
Just can't understand that it runs so slow....in games it's so busy that quake 3 i laggy in the low graphics....

My rig:

Msi 648 max motherboard
768mb Samsung DDR Pc 2700
Maxtor 80gb ata 133
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
Radeon 9600 Pro (Saphire atlantis ultimate edition)
Lite on DVD 16x
Sblive value

Just need some help getting it running like a 2.4Ghz.....and not like a 1.2Ghz

just a small question does your bios show it as 2.4? and in your system properties.

I really dont know what to tell you except, check your BIOS settings, like MEM timings, voltages, etc.

And run a full FORMAT on your Drive C: - just reinstall Windows, that should help.

Well thanks for the advice but i'm tired of saying that i'm way ahead of U =?)....some people say that you can setup the voltages and the timings ....but i don't know the perfect settings....do you?

first thoughts it might of been underclocked.

i agree with tek as for a format on drive c. unless you have done so already when swapping over new hardware/software.
to get rid of traces of different drivers from old mobo.

its always best to with new hardware which is why we have suggested it.

download aida32 this will give you info on everything for your pc.

i didn't want to sound rude, we'll i've tried formatting, and installing: windows 98, 2k and Xp......but none of them seemed to work :: =?(

your friends pc by chance isn't an amd is it

have you made sure you installed all your chipset drivers etc...?

how about your 2.4ghz?

the 1.8ghz is a pentium 4 fsb 400 on Xp home.....2.4ghz = fsb 500 xp pro

Maybe a silly question, but have you got your CD/DVD drives and hard drives setup correctly. ie HDD on MASTER (preferably on its own channel)

Can you both run PCMark2004 and post the compare links in here...let us (and you) see how they compare, what the individual components are etc

See any similarities here? RUN the tests man.

You haven't even told anyone what the specific symptoms are. What do you mean, "it's too slow" That could mean anything - give specific info or no one can help.

My computer is slow in games....my quake 3 is laggy in med graphics, Warcraft III and Battlefield.......the only thing i'd like to know is: there migth be some people that knows how to get the pc to become a good gaming machine =)

I've runned Benchmark 04 and got 3300 points, could only run the cpu test.

but BWX232 i know what you mean.

I notice your m/board has 3 slots for memory. Have you tried just 2 sticks instead of 3? This seems silly, but some boards don't like to have a certain kind of RAM in the last slot.

the last slot may just be designed to run only single sided DIMMs or only double sided DIMMs, but not both. try swapping the RAM around and different combinations.

Also, what are your settings for games - resolution/refresh rate/anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering.

Finally, in the BIOS, check to see that the L1 and L2 cache are enabled. Some boards allow you to turn them off and this will drasticly decrease performance.

both off = best performance - hence why I thought they might be all the way up.

Still think it could be a RAM issue.

i've installed the new drives plus i set my 2d and 3d options to performance instead of balanced. it works a bit better now =?) that's good

By the way, the program: REDLINE from Ati, is there a newer version? my version is V.1.8......i would be happy if anyone knew =)

or is there a better program for the Ati cards?
