Hay.
We've had this problem now with the network for a few weeks, I've got help from www.protonic.com and been unsucessful. wondered if any of you guys could help me out... Both PC's are networked using NIC's and crossover, using WinXP. The network wizard has been ran on both PC's. Setting one up as host and one as client. The internet sharing is fine and works great but the file sharing will not work! I got to the stage last week where I could view files on the host from the client but not vice versa. (I've run the network wizard many times). I've configured my norton firewall to the IP of the client PC and XP firewall is disabled. Whats going wrong? d4rkz. |

1st uninstall the Norton Firewall, and make sure that the XP inbuilt one is turned off, and check the following, after all networks been worked out... then the Norton can be reinstalled

if you have 2 or more computers sharing a single internet connection and/or files and printers, all your computers likely use non-routable IP addresses (or Private IP addresses) - 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 with the Subnet - 255.255.255.0 .. these arrays of IP addrs are used for local networking. so you should use the "Use the following IP address:" options.. Not the Obtain an IP address automically.
i dont think you'll have to use the XP network wizard at all (Set up a home or small office network wizard ) just do the config manully, once you've done that and check all the needed, then the Norton will follow your configs as part of its installation. |

so...
host = 192.168.0.1 client = 192.168.0.2 Is that right? d4rkz. |

yep that should do... and the Subnet - 255.255.255.0 will be auto gen by windows when you click at the fill in box. Then do a check on the 3 steps as my previous posted, and try testing it by setting up a shere folders/drives and see if you all can see and use it on both PCs.

Okie. I set static IP's:
192.168.0.1 192.168.0.2 And subnet masks: 255.255.255.0 And enabled netBIOS. There's now no communication (internet share) at all between both PC's with or without the firewall on. Do the IP addresses have to be static? d4rkz. |

okay, open the Run.. box (start ->run) and type.. C:\WINDOWS\help\netcfg.chm
and hit enter. the command, will open network connections help file, locate "Internet Connecttion Sharing", at the topic you'll check in the ICS settings, see if it helps. |

oke thanks. I scanned that...
originally when I made this post i said that ICS worked. I was set to static (192.168.0.1) and client was set to auto. The firewall was enabled and configured to 192.168.0.2. That now doesnt seem to work which is very strange...! d4rkz. |

noratn will disable/block file shareing connetions ... you have to set it up in nortan itself right
unless you want to run with no firewall and fileing shareing open (hack bait)

yah there is a network wizard inside of norton, I've tried to use it doesnt work :S but manually doing it allows at least ICS which is okay for now.
I'm upgrading next week, so its time for a fresh install of XP. I will install the network b4 I install norton then and see how it goes from there. thanks for all ure help ppl.d4rkz. |
