help me with my sudden loud "pop" sound when shutting down
I've a Audigy gamer and connected to ACS-48, and each time, I shut down my system using this Shutdown Now, the system when scheduled to terminate, will exit with a loud "pop" or bursting kind of sound. What is wrong? Previously, I didn't encountered such audible "sudden burst-pop" sound everytime, my Shutdown Now is closing my Windows, therefore, can someone assist me to find out the culprit and get back my normal system becos I'm afraid that consistence such abrupt "pop" noise might damaged my ACS-48 or even worst should I intends to upgrade to more high end sets???
Thank you. |

I've ALWAYS had that problem. The best solution I can think of is to turn off your speakers before shutting down to avoid that. Another thing I do is turn the volume on the speakers down to a low level.....let me try to explain.
I have one of those keyboards with a volume control on it (alternately, you can use the volume controls within Windows to achieve the same result, if you don't have a volume control on the keyboard), I turn on some music and then turn the volume all the way down on the keyboard(or through Windows) to where it's just before it cuts sound altogether. Then I adjust the speaker's volume control to be just above a whisper at that level. Then I only use the volume controls on the keyboard(or Windows) to adjust volume. This will cut down on how loud that POP noise is when turning on or off the system, it will still be there, just not as loud or damaging. It CAN damage the sub-woofer to have it POP or THUMP like that if the speaker's volume is up too high. When you have those times where you want the sound louder, you can always turn the volume back up on the speakers, if the Windows/keyboard volume slider isn't sufficient, but try to remember to turn it back down (or like I said, just shut the speakers off) before shutting down. Try to strike a balance between the audio card's volume level and the volume level on the speakers to reduce that THUMP problem to a minimum. Like I said, I've ALWAYS had this problem too. It seems like there should be a simpler solution implemented on the audio cards themselves to avoid this, but there isn't. If someone has a better solution, I'd like to know what it is too. I hope that helps you at least a little. |

I almost count this as a "feature" of my Audigy. When I power on my PC, onlookers are blessed with a 30hz THUMP THUMP from my Logitech z560s that gives almost everyone a heart attack!

steph's audigy thumps too when the rig is powered down...its become second nature to kill the volume control knob before it happens.
at least you know you're not alone i guess.

Mine does it too, I wouldn't worry about it.
