I want a SoundBlaster Audigy 2

I'm planning to get an SB Audigy 2 and retire my aging SBLive. I'm getting it for $99 CAD, which is the lowest I've seen it in the area. It comes with just the card, which is all I really care about. Is it worth it? Should I hold out for the "next" creative project? I don't want to get shafted by Creative like when they nearly completely gave up on the SBLive series (There was one minor hotfix early this month). I hear good things about the Audigy 2. Input would be helpful~

Thanks

The Sound Blaster Audigy 2 is an incredible card. I have it hooked up to my Logitech Z-5300 5.1 Surround Sound speakers, and it's just incredible in audio quality.

I think there's a retail "ZS" version that includes a port for FireWire, and a OEM version that doesn't include FireWire support.

Crash Override is an unknown quantity at this point

what motherboard do you have?

if it has either of the realtek 650 or 655 AC'97 chip in it then theres no need.

My onboard 655 using RightMark Audio Analyzer came back with better clarity and fidelity than the Audigy2.

I think even the first generation Audigy sound cards (at least some of them) had IEEE 1394 (Firewire) on them. I know my Audigy 2 does. The only big change with the ZS series as far as I know is 7.1 surround sound support. Of course, I still think 5.1 surround is fine.

Make sure you install the new soundcard drivers off the website and not off the cd, it will save you a world of hurt
