Questions about ghosting PC's with Symantec Ghost

At the place I work for, to ghost new PC's, we boot them up with a GhostCast bootable floppy, and ghost them from an image stored on the network. However, this has started to cause problems with making the network extremely slow. So I was thinking of getting an external Hard Drive or an external DVD burner and using it to ghost PC's locally without using the network. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure if this would work. For the DVD burner, could I create a bootable DVD with the ghostcast files on it and then ghost the computer with an image on the DVD? For the hard drive, could I boot the PC with a floppy like I do now and also have the external HD acknowledged so I could ghost from an image on the HD? Thanks for any info.

We use Ghost here where I work but at home I use DriveImage 7 and I know with that you can pull from a DVD or CD. But I am unsure with Ghost if you can do this.I know you can Ghost from a CD, but just not sure on the DVD. You can span the image across a few CD's if need be. We have done that a few times here.

I am guessing you work for a smaller company if you are having network issues with Ghost. I work for a pretty large one and Ghost causes us no problems. I could also be that we have a dedicated server for our images and our network back-bone is all fibre.

Thanks for the quick replies. This seems like it should work. I guess I should have checked the Symantec site before posting this. Thanks again.
