Networking Help
Just got hold of a new PC that I'm going to connect my rig to.
I have my cable modem connected to the new pc which is then connected to the rig. I have the rig to share the pc's internet connection and that all seems to work fine. However, I want to be able to access files and folders between the 2 machines. I can setup a remote desktop connection on either machine and that works fine. I cant however access specific folders on the network. I have chosen 2 unique computer names which both have the same workgroup name but they just dont see each other. Can anyone help? |

You may need a hub to run the peer to peer network along with your router...this may help:
Whatever folders your trying to share from comp to comp you have to enable remote access and share the folders wanted with the other comp. Home Networking

I sugest that you might be much better off investing in a good router...... They are fairly cheap... and boy... they do a dandy job....

Nah, I'm giving up. I can't afford to spend any more money on daft little experiments like this one. I'll probably get a router as and when I can afford one (or nick one from work)

You need to make sure File and Printer Sharing is enabled on all the machines. Also clicking on each drive, or a specific folder for that matter, of any machine and accesing the properties, you'll have the option to enable sharing

Did all that. Gave up.
I have come across a legal, unused copy of 2000 advanced server so that has been installed tonight. I'm trying to set it up to run as a NAT router but so far I am having problems getting that machine to connect to the internet(or my rig for that matter) I shall have to invest in some books I think. |
