??? help! my server ftp upstream/downstream issue...

I have an ftp upstream/downstream issue... I'm playing around with u-serve 5.0 ftp server and when someone’s uploading there only getting 12-15k … It should be a heck of a lot faster…

I’m on a 128/384 internet connection and if I test my net speed I get 192k up and about 4mb downstream … I live almost across the street from my ISP and their main box.

The server default is what I’m running for buffers
Send 8192
Receive 8192

also i'm set to is set to unlimited up and downstream

What should I maybe crank these up to?

Any other setting is should play with I have some idea but I’m wanting 3rd party help/someone that’s doing or has run one before would be hot!

I’m trying to learn what I’m doing on my main rig before I set up a more permanent ftp server…

May be limitted to their upload speeds.

May be a setting in there limitting the upload amount per person.

Hmm yes as ZeroDamage mentioned. It could the other persons upload that is cuzing the slow speed. Or it could be that the account is limited.

Well no.... I got u-serve set to unlimited up/down and the person who is uploading has 1.5mb/up and down stream! So I don't think it's them.... I closed MSN messenger and my Microsoft pointer program now I’m getting 14 to 16k. I’m wondering if my ISP is just on crack or what??

first image is not reliable.... i've yet to see it see my system setup correctly at all....

the second however nails it...

i'd suggest you set the Recive window to 131072.. this will be equivelent of 128mb..... plenty of buffer.... with that.. i'm able to download things much quicker.. but then again... it's the 10mb/s deal...

Play with your Time to live.... set it to min of 64.... and your MTU.... your running through a router right?... do this:

load up and run cmd

then type: ping -f -l 1500 www.hardwareheaven.com

(the -l is a low case L )

this will tell you if the packet being sent is being forced to fragment before completely sending... routers tend to set up different and so does cable.. dsl suppliers..

the 1500 is the MTU..... if you can successfully transmit and get a full ping from the server and other sites (just change the driverheaven.net to whatever other site) then your good.. force 1500 if it's not on..

if you can't.... try lowering it 5 - 10 each time.. till you hit a point you can send without fragmenting..... at this point you know what to do... increase it... slowly....

As soon as you hit a point that is the highest... it appears adding 28 will give you your max MTU

Currently going through my router.. 1464 is what i got.... adding 28 brings it to 1492....

drtpc to do up your receive buffer and whatnot..

well.... actually it's funny..... i've been experienceing the same thing when setting up my server.... every time i talk to shaw... they don't really tell me anything...... it almost seems like as soon as they know.... they start killing the connection... slowing it down... trying to prevent people from finding out about how fast it is.... or something....
