Weird issue with computer not booting

Well Im working on a PC down here at a friends business.

He runs and internet cafe and his PC's are essential of course

Well he had a machine just stop working on him recent out of the blue.

Nothing is working right at all. Basically his computer stopped even trying to boot so he replaced the power supply.

That didnt work. So we just switched out the motherboard with one he used to use in his rig a while back.

Still no go.

Basically it looks like this

We start the computer up and the fans kick up for a half second and then just die. Personally Im of the opinion that both of the motherboards are dead especially since the second one was just lying on a shelf unprotected for almost a year.

We both suspect it may be the CPU though but want to know if there is a quick and easy way to test out that hypothesis without having to trade it in and out of machines for a while.

what about the other computers.... they should be a source of parts to test with....

IT is sounding to me to be either a Mobo issue or a CPU. Those would be my first step after the PSU.

I am leaning towards a bad CPU. I had one go bad on me last year, I put it in another system that worked perfectly......and it killed that MB as well. It was an XP 2100+ Pally. It was due to heat damage from being on for a very long time with only the stock heat pad and insufficient case cooling. Words of warning though. IF in fact it is the CPU, putting another CPU in a board that it killed.......will also kill the new CPU. The memory was not harmed though.

sorry for not replying sooner on any of my threads guys.

Was in the hospital last night so I didnt get a chance to see anything

Anyways it turns out it was both motherboards being dead.

He had me use a third one he had in his main machine and both CPUs worked just fine.

Ordered him a new motherboard and told him to keep the inside of the case clean and to make sure that if he buys motherboards to leave them in the static bag until he uses them instead of leaving them on bare shelves
