i am going to be getting a new P4 machine in the coming month and i want a good heatsink for it. i am looking for a good copper heatsink with a 80mm fan that is replacable with a bigger and better one. i'm going to be getting a new 3.0 Prescott chip. and i will be using a Asus P4C800-E DELUXE motherboard.
thanx for any suggestions.

I went shopping a few days ago to replace my AMD system with Intel.
I got the 2.4C, Thermalright SP-94 (gonna be using a Thermaltake SmartFanII on it) and the P4C800-E Deluxe. you made a very good choice, that is the BEST heatsink out right now for Intel solutions, wish I had a 92MM Tornado though ![]() its ok I'll live.

I personally think Thermalright makes the best Heatsinks out there. I have the SLK-900u for my 2500+ and I am still drop-jawed at the temps I get..... Just crazy cool...... |

Just been looking at that review. Its made me realize that I have my heatpipe HSF upside down. I'll have to sort that later.

Vantec's are loud yeah, but dont we all have a fan controller by now? At least custom home-made ones?
![]() I dont know how it is yet cause I havent set up my P4 system yet (still waiting for the MOBO to arrive). But craig (he got banned) told me he had his P4 @ 3.5GHz 1.6V or more and his CPU was at 22C idle with a 92MM Tornado on the SP-94, so it MUST be good!

A Little OT
I've been hearing instead of using the 92 fans on the Thermalrights that the 70's work better because there is more air flow to the center of the heatsink. I don't have a 70 laying around to try this but it's been said it makes a 10-15 degrees difference!!!

I've never bothered with a fanbus, my experience with a 60mm 7500RPM fan turned me away from fans in general, now I go with as few as possible, Watercooling,
and my ears have never felt better, Just have to get around to removing those last few fans and water cool that PSU, then I can just use a nice quiet 120 mm Fan and Later my Old car Radiator. no noise save for the HDD and Optical Drives, just won't be the easiest thing to move to LANs at Friends houses and other eventsEDIT: Why not use the bigger fan and a Standoff, take another 92MM Fan and remove the outer case and use it so you can get more airflow to all the fins |
